[Fix found!] Bluetooth headphones not working in MS Teams after Windows 11 upgrade

Other ideas online failed, but this works! I was having the hardest time trying to get my Bluetooth headphones (bose 700) to work after my company updated me to Windows 11 on my Dell 5550 laptop. I manually tried updating the Intel Bluetooth and WiFi Drivers from Intel's website. that didn't help. I knew a few others seeing this problem on their own PCs as well. Our headphones would work in browsers, apps in windows 11, but not in MS Teams. We tried many other options until one fixed it... So here it is. Does this work for others as well?

I first go into Bluetooth and Devices.

Then click on View more devices.

Then scroll down and click on More Devices and Printer Settings.

Then I right click on my headphones icon and go to Properties.

Then go to the Services tab and Uncheck the Handsfree Telephony option.

After unchecking this, my headphones work in MS Teams!!

UPDATE FOR BLUETOOTH HEADSET DEVICES WITH MICROPHONES:

I was unable to get two different bluetooth headset (with microphone, not just headphones) devices to work with this Windows 11 Pro version listed below.

Edition: Windows 11 Enterprise

Version: 23H2

Installed on: ‎1/‎10/‎2024

OS build: 22631.3007

Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22681.1000.0

The bluetooth headset devices were as follows:

A. BlueParrott M300-XT SE

B. Microsoft Surface Headphones

I was able to bluetooth connect to both devices successfully, but both the headset headphones and microphone were not detected, and neither functioned or showed up as a viable option.

To get both the headphones and the microphone working, follow the directions in the original solution and then uncheck the following Services and hit apply:

A. Audio Sink

B. Unknown Service

You may need to recheck the Services on each device after reboot.

DISCLAIMER: This solution is ONLY for the OS and bluetooth audio devices specifics mentioned in this post. This is also subject to possible change with each new Windows 11 update release.

I have the Sony WH-1000XM4 and have been struggling with this problem for almost 2 years. Every time I have to use Teams I have to do it from my Mac (using my air pods), instead of my Windows 11 workstation. It was so frustrating, the fact that I can hear all other sounds in Teams (including ringing and people joining in our dropping out), but not actual conversations. I wrote to support, even had a MS support engineer spend hours on my case, trying all kinds of "solutions" with nothing working... I had completely given up on using the PC for Teams meetings, until I just found your post.

If I untick the option "Handsfree telephony", I lost the microphone on Teams, but I have the audio playing on the headset.

If I keep the "Handsfree telephony" and untick the option "Audio sink", my microphone work, but I lost the audio.

have the Bose Ultra Opens and have the same problem. Turning off handsfree telephony headphones worked but still no microphone :(
