Teams is not opening on macbook

Hello,

I have a user that uses a MacBook pro with Catalina on it. Recently teams have not been wanting to work on this user's computer. There were times where it was opened, but then froze and bogged down the performance of the MacBook. Sometimes it wouldn't open when the user would log into their computer for the day. It would just bounce and never open or give out an error.

We have uninstalled and reinstalled the program to his computer but now it just bounces like it is opening but then never does open. I have looked at other solutions like deleting the ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams  and teams folder but again the same issue.

This MacBook is about 1 month old and has the current update and the rest of the Microsoft office programs work fine on there. The user is currently using the web version of the teams to get by for now.  Wondering if there is anything we can try to get this working again.
Thank you

Ok guys I am running Big Sur. What I had to do was as follow

  1. Open up you calendar and find a teams meeting.
  2. Once you click on the meeting like your going to join. It will pop up a message asking if you want to use the desktop app.
  3. It will then ask you to login and once you do that it works.

I had multiple attempts at accessing Teams, however it took some proper digging to figure out what's going on.

If you are running a Mac, uninstalling Teams will not remove all the associated files.

First, uninstall Teams by dragging to the Bin, but only from Finder where it should prompt for a password.

Then go to ~/Library/Application Support and find the folder entitled "Teams" and drag this to the Bin as well.

While in the Application Support folder, ensure there isn't a com.microsoft.teams folder, but if there is Bin this one too.

    Empty the Bin.

Reinstall as usual and that should work.

Remove ANY and ALL files that have “com.microsoft.teams.”

I tried that a few times, and it didn't work. But then I but found a few more files with “com.microsoft.teams” through SPOTLIGHT.

I quit all other apps. Then I uninstalled TEAMS, reinstalled and rebooted. Then I joined TEAMS through an external link in a TEAMS invitation in MS Outlook. That finally worked.

I'd say keep trying the above steps. Persistence.

Then NEVER quite the APP ever again! ;-)

In order to fix that issue I followed the next steps

    • Remove Teams app
    • Remove ~/Library/Application Suppor/com.microsoft.teams, ~/Library/Application Suppor/Microsoft/Teams
    • Restart the system
    • While there are no other apps are open (especially Chrome and VSCode and probably other running electron) reinstall the Teams
