OK, so I got it on reddit.

That feature is hardware dependent although Microsoft has not communicated specifically what the dependency might be. If the selected camera is not supported than the option simply won't appear as you've noticed.

There's a statement at the end of this article confirming:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/blur-your-background-in-a-teams-meeting-f77a2381-443a-499d-825e-509a140f4780

So my CPU/GPU is old for that unbelievable feature.

    Thanks again, Microsoft...

Hi, I just don't get it. If my computer allows me to install the latest version of teams and it works fine on video calls, then why can't I have the "change background' function?

I know, I don't have the latest hardware, but still. This is my first tech. issue. And streaming 8K.

    macOS Mojave 10.14.6

    Intel Core i5 2,5Ghz

    10 GB DDR3

    SSD

    Does anybody know the answer?

Thank you, I had tried that, including adding the backgrounds folder to the correct location.  I tried it again following your instructions and unfortunately did not work.  Interestingly, it did work a couple of months back but the reinstall no longer works.  As stated, works on skype, zoom, and other platforms, just not teams.

I had the same issue. Turns out I apparently got an older version of Team installed (not sure where I downloaded that one from, I'm actually quite certain that it was from Microsoft). After re-installing from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app it worked flawlessly, and also the UI seemed to be a little more modern.

It may be that for some reason, this also had to do with signing in. In the previous version, signing in didn't really work, or it could be that by re-installing, I somehow fixed the login-issue.

One thing that I had also tried was manually adding the Backgrounds folder (which was missing in my installation, and the log also showed an error because that folder was missing). I added Backgrounds and under Backgrounds "Uploads". That was in C:\Users<MyUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds. After I had added that folder, after starting the app, it did add a thumbnail - but the backgrounds still didn't show up.

Anyways, now, after re-installing, it all worked as expected (and also, finally, it remembers my audio-settings).
