Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

I have found a workaround, for me anyway. Go into the device setting in Teams, leave the "Speaker" set to your headphones. Set the microphone to the PC's microphone.

Enjoy the sound of beep silence.

I would still like this to be "fixed", as the microphone in my headset works better than the PC one, but at least now my sanity may be saved.

I am using Aftershokz too and until now I am still hearing loud beeping sound when on mute. The work around this is to use Web client instead of Desktop Client which is not ideal.

I have lodge a feedback through Teams web client and hopefully MS will fix it soon. I believe this happened before a few months ago.

I've been having the same issue with my Aftershokz Air, for the past few weeks now.

Note, this is only happening on the desktop application, the issue doesn't occur on the mobile app.

None of the proposed workarounds have worked for me.

This has been happening to me too. I'll try your suggestion on my next Teams meeting. Thanks!

    Hi,

I had the same problem when using my Aftershokz with the desktop version of Teams. My headphones are also paired with my phone.

The solution I found was to press the 'orange' answer button on the side of the headset twice. This disables the 'mute' function on the headset whilst on the call. The mic icon on the bottom right of the screen changes colour from 'red' to 'white'.

Sadly you need to do this for every call...but at least no irritating bleep!
