Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

    That's not 100% correct. I agree that Microsoft should give users the option to disable this "feature", but it does work correctly when paired with a Teams certified headset. I have a Logitech headset that is Teams certified. When I mute within Teams, the mute light on the headset illuminated giving me a hardware reminder that I muted. The problem arises when using headsets that provide audio feedback to notify the end-user they are muted. The simplest solution is providing an option within Teams to enable or disable the mute synchronization.

    Sorry, I don't agree with your reply - it is 100% bug on Microsoft side.

    When I hit the mute button in Teams, i want to muted in Teams, not in Discord, Slack, Skype....

    When Teams mutes my hardware, it is absolutely wrong. If I want to mute my mic for everything, there is a way to do it - on system panel, or - in many cases - on hardware I am using.

    BTW: Using Sennheiser HB450 BT, having the same problem :(

    Never thought of a scenario to use the mic/headphone on multiple apps at the same time, but then you are right...if Teams is on mute and you want to be able to talk in Discord, yes absolutely.

    Well, both companies could do something about it

    I agree MS should definitely take action. At minimum there should be the option to mute the mic either for the OS or just Teams.

    I am less concerned about hardware manufacturers making a change. I'm a Shokz owner myself. If I ever were to mute my headset, I think it's nice that I would get the audio reminder (maybe tone it down a bit) because this headset doesn't have a light I would be able to see while wearing it. But I never muted the hardware so the beeping didn't bother me because it never happened. I only found a need to mute the headset after MS made this change.

    That said I can see how some people might want the option on the headset as well. It just wouldn't affect me, because, again, I don't want Teams muting the mic for all my other apps.

    This is not opinion. This is fact. MS is allowing headphones to work as intended from headphones. lol, this is not hard to understand. Why is it MS's job to change how the headphones should operate? But, just to let you know, Shokz understand the issue, and this is their response below.
