Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

So what's the deal with this forum? I had expectations that someone from Microsoft would take this Voice of Customer and actually fix the issue. There are 17 pages of complaints and possible "workarounds", yet no word of a fix.

In my organization the overzealous IT and Info Sec guardians have disabled the "send feedback" button, so that's no help.

    Microsoft are you out there????

Here Is My Simple Workaround for Aftershokz (Mute) Beeping on Teams Calls:

When I first started using my AfterShokz, I could mute without having the beeping, but then the beeping became persistent when I switched computers. So, I knew there must be a way to get around this problem. After playing around with it - I found the following solution.

What you have to do is mute Teams without muting the Aftershokz device. The easiest way I have found to do this is as follows:

    1. Make sure your Aftershokz device is the selected device, both on your computer and on Teams
    2. While on a Teams call, mute yourself per usual by clicking the mute mic button on Teams
    3. After you are muted and the beloved beeping starts... press and hold the "+" and "-" volume buttons at the same time on your Aftershokz device for about two seconds until you hear "mute off." At this point you should be muted through Teams without being muted through your Aftershokz device, and the beeping will not persist.

Cheers and good luck my friends!
