Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

What the?! We have multiple users with this issue. Now I should tell them to mute / unmute in system settings? Or purchase new hardware? Why is there no switch in Teams? How about a simple visual hint? We can click that away and that's it. This feels like a real marketing bulls... we will look for the Teams verified logo and avoid that in the future.

Yes, this works but as you said that you have to keep doing this every time you mute in Teams. This workaround is great if you are not going to mute/unmute frequently in a meeting or presentation. I have been using the web version of Teams to avoid all the hassles in the situation when I have to go on mute/unmute frequently.

In other meetings apps like Zoom, Goto Meeting, or Google Meet, I do not have any problem with the loud beep during the mute period. I think part of it is because these apps are web-based.

    for Windows 10:

    1. Right click the volume button in the start menu and select "Sounds"
    2. Click on the Recording tab, and select Headset (make sure it's Shokz). Click "Properties"
    3. Go to the "Levels" tab and you might see that your headset is muted by default for some reason. Unclick it.

     for Windows 11:

    1. Right click the volume button in the start menu and select "Sound settings"
    2. Scroll all the way down and select "More sound settings"
    3. Click on the Recording tab, and select Headset (make sure it's Shokz). Click "Properties"
    4. Go to the "Levels" tab and you might see that your headset is muted by default for some reason. Unclick it.

This fixed it for me immediately! Thank you so much!

Note: I do have to keep the Sound settings open and click unmute after every time I mute in Teams :) Joy.

This issue with the Aftershokz Open Comm just started for me in April. 2022 it’s not the headset clearly it’s a Microsoft Teams issue and it’s unbearable trying to listen to training or business calls. There is no mute button for the mic on the headset that I am aware of. Please direct me to the solution if there is one.

Exactly the same issue, only on Aftershokz Openrun. (I have a separate microphone)
