Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

I'm still having this issue. I used to be able to work around it by setting my microphone to Microphone Array (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)). Unfortunately, that no longer works. If I try to set my microphone to a device that's different from my speakers, I completely lose all audio.

a poor man's workaround (perhaps mentioned here before?):

in order to mute my side but still listen through the Shokz, change the microphone in the Teams [settings>device settings, then on the microphone pull down choose a different microphone from the Shokz (typically your default microphone)] and then mute that other microphone.

Then if you want to speak you can either use that other microphone buy unmuting, or using a few more clicks change back to the Shokz microphone and then speak.

kind of trivial but does the job for me.

If the option is available to you, don't use the teams app. I have the option to open in Chrome and the problem doesn't exist.

I've not yet tried the vol+/- press at the same time workaround yet.

Shokz does SELL a dongle that corrects the teams situation. Unfortunately this solution disables the multiple pairing option because it loses Bluetooth connection with the phone.

Shokz is very aware of the situation but can't fix it on devices already in the market because there is no way to update the firm ware on their device.

Its a total bummer because I really like them.
