Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

Thanks for the recommendation! This doesn't fix the loss of convenience by losing the on-device control of the mic, but if the beeping stops, I'll take it in the short-term.

To Microsoft - I don't know the internal reasoning for this change, or what problem it was intended to fix, but it has broken something in a service that MS is paid to provide. In the IT department where I work, that would be grounds to roll back the change immediately, and have the fix redeveloped so that the original issue (whatever it may be) can be fixed without affecting other applications, features, or processes.

You should adhere to this, essentially, industry standard mode of behavior, and revert changes that break other things.

As of a Windows update applied by my company on Dec 9 2022, this method no longer works because the volume +/- buttons no longer work to mute/unmute the microphone when connected to an MS Teams meeting. (I have not experimented with these controls in any other MS applications yet)

This is not an option in open-plan offices where many of us work, which necessitates the need for the headsets in the first place.

Workaround disabled instead of fixing the problem: For the Aftershokz Openmove headset, there had been a workaround to this by using the in-Teams/UI control to mute the microphone, then using the headset control buttons on the device itself to 'unmute' - this convinced the device that the microphone was unmuted, and the beeping stopped.Rather than fix this issue, the latest Windows update applied by my place of business to our machines has made this workaround inoperable, because the mute control on the headset device is now not recognized by MS Teams, so even if there wasn't a beep making it difficult to hear the participants in a meeting every 5 seconds, there is now also the loss of convenience of being able to mute/unmute from the connected device instead of having to use UI controls.

I think that will work for me as well. Thank you!
