When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.
I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.
Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?
It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

What was the workaround?
This is an issue in the MS Teams application. This is not an issue for me when using MS Teams in Chrome. Like others, this is a HUGE problem and it "seems" that it is a type of punishment for using none MS approved hardware. Aftershoz follows the Bluetooth standards. I know this because I have 2 headsets from them that work on every device and application, until MS teams did an update. This is a known issue and a resolution would be greatly appreciated. Using ANY comms system that isn't MS teams in the mean time.
I use airshokz, earphones. I used to hear the beeping. To get rid of the beeping, I joined a TEAMS meeting, then muted myself on the Teams app, triggering the beeping, then I pressed the power and volume buttons on the earphones, simultaneously, for 3 seconds, until the airshocks voice command stated "Mute Off". The beeping went away, and i stayed muted on TEAMs.
Hopefully this helps.
Turning mute on/off with the headphones is a normal function. You don't need to hold all three buttons - you just need to hold both volume buttons for three seconds to turn mute on or off.
I tried your suggestion and it worked for a moment. The headphones (Audrey) said "mute off" and I stayed muted in Teams. However, when I unmuted myself in Teams and then muted myself again, the beeping resumed, so this is not a permanent solution.
Also, trying this while holding all three buttons produced the same result.
So far, the only solution seems to be using the web version of Teams, rather than the desktop version. This issue does not occur with the web version.
On my Aftershoks, I pushed all three buttons, power, volume+, and volume -, at the same time for 3 seconds. Aftershock voice command said "mute disabled", but TEAMS remained muted on the app. Beeping stopped after that.
this workaround no longer working for me (and other users on the thread) after the Teams/Microsoft update on 9 Dec. Glad if it works for you.
While I havent read all 20 pages of this thread hence perhaps this solution is already in the thread?
I have been dealing with this issue on some AfterShokz headphones for six months, it's extremely annoying.
I just came across a Reddit thread that includes a solution that actually worked!

I'd been having the problem with my Shokz and today found a location. If I put Teams on mute it starts beeping, so I unmute the headphones by holding the + and - buttons for 2 seconds. I get the "mute off" but Teams stayed muted and there was no beeping.
This solution worked for me, hallelujah!
