Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

I'm not convinced this is a hardware issue. My Opencomm headset works fine in other virtual meeting programs like Zoom and GoTo. Only beeps with Teams.

I disagree. MS caused this in the first place. Multiple headset manufacturers have this issue now. This is only an issue for the Teams client and not for other applications using Audio. Some people need their mike during calls for accessibility tools (speech to text) while the Teams client is muted.

This started happening to me on November 28th, 2022. It's killing me. Strange that it never happened to me before since Nelsy_H_ posted this issue way back in April of 2022.

    I respectfully disagree.

When I change a setting on software (excepting hardware specific software of course) I don't expect the software to make universal changes to my devices.

I don't expect lowering the output volume in Teams to change the volume of my music (the music is just more important sometimes). I don't expect changing the resolution for Netflix to change the resolution for Word or my games.

Just the same, I don't expect muting the mic in Teams to mute all other applications.

Thank you for this post. It works a little different for the AfterShockz OpenCom. I found that if I join a meeting in Teams once I hear the "Mute On" I can press and hold the vol+ and vol- buttons for 2 seconds, this is the button code for mute on the OpenCom, my headset will then say "Mute Off" and the beeping is gone. It is a nice work around, though if I have to talk in the meeting and then re-mute myself I need to do these steps again or it will beep again.

Here is the link to the Aftershokz OpenCom button codes:
