When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.
I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.
Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?
It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

Thanks for sharing the response. This makes a lot of sense from a technical perspective.
From a usability perspective though, I don't know that I agree that this is the correct thing to do.
This obviously caught out a lot of people. People that aren't going to think this is good behavior no matter what. I recall someone pleading "Microsoft - please, please, please don't change the WebApp to mute the audio sources properly!!!!" =)
I realize that this change wasn't your decision, so I'm not trying to lambast you here. I'm just stating why the change still doesn't make sense to me despite the technical reasoning in the hopes someone admits this wasn't the win they thought it was and maybe undoes it? Yeah, I know. One can hope though.
When I change most application settings, I don't expect the setting to take effect for all other applications. I don't need or necessarily want the mic muted across the board. I have a perfectly good reminder that Teams is muted up there on the display. Having Teams control features on hardware based on a shared name is a decision that didn't seem to take a lot of other context into consideration. And if it was such a compelling reason, why doesn't Teams also control my USB mic? They could have made that change too. I really hope it's not on the way. =)
Sure, Shokz could address the issue by toning down the "you're muted dummy" sound. Though, this assumes that muting the whole mic is Teams' responsibility, which again I'd argue it isn't. I like that my mic gives me a notification when the whole mic is muted. It lets me know I took action at the hardware when nothing on the UI might otherwise indicate that. And I've got buttons on the mic to control that.
At the very least, a setting to control this behavior would be a win. Whether that's in Teams or Shokz firmware. The former would probably be easier though.
This one is driving me nuts. It just started happening last week and I haven't been able to find a solution to it.
I have the Aftershox headset w/ boom mic (opencomm?). I bought it off amazon Nov '21. The big button (answer/hang up) and the volume buttons have never worked. The big button did nothing. The volume buttons would simply play the voice that provides the battery status, even during a call. The ringtone is the single Teams ringtone that plays
October 28 rolls around and my Teams updates to 1.5.00.28567. I log on Friday morning and get a call. Two ringtones play: a brand new one and the normal teams ringtone. During the call I go on mute by selecting the mute button on the call via my mouse. i hear "mute on". This is new. A few seconds later i hear the double beep. When I click the mute button again "mute off" plays. I also experienced two new things. 1) if my headset is off and i am geting a call, if i turn on my headset, when the headset connects via bt it auto-picks up the call (in mute on mode... playing the beeps after a bit). 2) if i hit the big button, it will hang up the call.
NOTE: i have not tried using the big button to answer a call.
None of this occurred prior to Oct 28. I work on a computer using Teams every day making calls for 1on1s or meetings every day.
Hopefully this helps someone as I have the aftershox but have had a different experience than others. I've only tried one of the workarounds but did not have any luck (not sure if i was doing it correctly or not).
I am NOT interested in a workaround so i'm not pursuing those at all.
