I am on Windows 10 on an HP laptop and my audio for Microsoft Teams keep cutting off every now and then. It comes back on, it goes back off. I would say it does it for 15 seconds and then I get a minute of a good audio. The video works fine too, but there's no audio while the video shows the person is clearly talking.

Hi All,

This is Alan Wu from Microsoft Office 365 forum team.

I am very glad to have this chance to reply here. Well, for teams audio related issue, I believe dear customers may try the following suggestions:

  1. Check the band width which has been stated clearly in Prepare your organization's network for Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Docs.
  2. Make sure your driver and audio device are workable. For more information, you can refer to My microphone isn't working in Teams - Office Support (microsoft.com).
  3. Update your Teams client to the latest version.
  4. Isolate it is not the recipient side issue. I mean, supposing you are having a Teams call with another user and got this problem, please make sure the issue is not coming from that user's side.

At last, dear customers, as the similar/same issue may be caused via different factors since your environment like OS, client version, network, etc are different. I suggest our dear customers who are having the issue can post a new thread in our forum so that our engineers can better handle it. Here we can avoid some confusion from the original post. Thanks for all very much.

Regards,

Alan

[Update] Ignore all that I said below regarding audio drivers. I noticed exactly the same issue while using Zoom. The real issue turned out to be WiFi. Even though the WiFi speed showed a respectable 30-40Mbps, switching to Ethernet solved the issue forever.

Ignore the part below:

I had the same issue and was able to solve it after some investigation. In my case, the cause boiled down to an audio driver that my Samsung PnP monitor (used as extended screen) was installing. Somehow Teams allowed itself interference from this audio driver, even though it was not selected in Teams settings. Here are the steps I would recommend, especially if you are using an external screen / microphone / webcam etc.:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Expand Audio inputs and outputs
  3. Right click the audio driver(s) that you do not use, and click Uninstall.

(Just disabling did not make the problem go away; uninstalling was required.)

Now the problem should go away. If you detach and reattach the monitor / device to your laptop, the audio driver will show up again, and you will need to uninstall it again.

TIP: If you are not sure which audio driver is being installed by your monitor / device, physically disconnect that device, open Device Manager and then plug in the device. You will see the Device Manager refresh and the new audio driver that shows up is the one being added by  your monitor / webcam / mic / device.

I don't disagree with you on that and am sorry for it. Here's the documentation we have on Teams that might be helpful.

In the meantime, per my post above, please do create a new thread if you still experience any issues.
