Moving posts from one channel/Team to another?

All teams have Owners. They should have the possibility to move a message from one channel to another, at least within the same Team.

I just came across this post while looking for the same thing, despite it being 4 years later.

You can do this now.

1. Go to the post you'd like to move
2. Click on edit (pencil icon)
3. Click on Settings
   1. select Post on multiple channels
4. Click on the plus sign by the Channel name
5. Select the channels

A FEW OF THINGS I'VE NOTICED THAT COULD BE AN ISSUE:

• If you want to move a post between channels, you first have to make a copy of the post to another channel (select both channels at the end of the instructions above). Then you need to go to the channel you want to keep the post and follow the same steps to remove it from the original channel
• Timestamp DOES NOT get transferred. It literally copies the post into the new channel. So the date/time on it will look as if you had just posted for the first time, which can be frustrating. My workaround was to copy the timestamp and include it in the post.
• Replies DON'T get transferred. I'd say this is the worst part. That was a very frustrating thing for me. I imagine it has to do with the fact that users permissions in different channels.

What's the current status on moving complete channels to different Teams please ?

I understood that it can be done with administrator rights only, which is again not much help as most people (like me) don't have these rights.

Moving a post works indeed, but do you really need to edit every single post ? I need to move long conversations, how do I handle this ?

As many people mentioned, there is a requirement to move chats contents to Teams - we are very limited trying to tidy up, merge etc.

As suggested by Teams Engineering from the link given above, "if you have an existing post that you want to show in a different channel, you can edit the message and cross-post. This will add the top-level post to the different channel, but will not include the full set of replies."

To move files, go to the Files tab under the channel, select the files you want to move or copy. Click on move or copy. To select a different team as the destination, click up two times until the list of teams appears. Then, select the team you want to move the files to then the channel and click move/ copy.
