Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

Yep. It was the stealth workaround alright. I had to Quit and restart Teams, then the beeping is (mercifully) gone. Thanks to the community for finding this because Microsoft certainly was not help at all.

this is driving me bonkers! it's incessant - like a tiny audible ice pick. Who thought this was a good idea?I? I hope they wake up every day for the rest of their lives and step on legos.

It seems to stop (sort of) while the meeting is going, but if i'm waiting for one to start or there is a pause in speaking on the meeting, it's just...beepity beeping beepington. aaarrggghh!!!

i changed this setting, but it did not stop the beeping. i restarted teams. i didn't sign out and back in, since i was waiting for a meeting when i found this. the bleeping beeping led me to google in desperation.

any thoughts? i need it to stop before i stab my speakers.

also does not occur on my phone. just my desktop and VDI.

Did you try toggling the on off button for the sync a couple times? May be toggle it ON then reboot. Then Toggle it off and reboot again?

The only thing I know for sure is this works on Trex/Aftershocks headphones connected to the built in Bluetooth adaptor on the PC. Not sure about anything else.

I'll try that! this isn't a bluetooth anything. Bluetooth is turned off on this device in Windows and I don't think it even has a bluetooth receiver. it's a desktop (and VDI through the desktop) I have a dobly 5.1 speaker set plugged into the sound card and a USB Blue Yeti mic.

i'll try your suggestion - maybe tomorrow (i'm still in the meeting)....and post the results.

ps - very serious about the lego thing....
