Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

Contact Shokz support and explain the problem. They'll send you a USB receiver for your computer. That will get around the problem.

I have the same exact issue the user is describing, but there's one difference, it does not happen while I am muted. I am using a Plantronics (Poly) Voyager Focus 2 headset with a BT700 dongle. The beeps happen after EVERY SINGLE CALL I take (we are using Teams as our phone system as well). Like the user described, it is two quick beeps that happen every 5 or so seconds, the same tone you hear when you put someone on hold. The only way I've found to stop the beeping is to change the audio source within Teams and my PC, so going from the Poly headset to Speakers/Headphones and back to Poly, as an example. After multiple google searches and troubleshooting, we think the source is the dongle. It's like it gets stuck after I hang up, thinking I still have a call on a line somewhere. The dongle will also flash blue, and looking at the light indicators on Poly's website, flashing blue= Open Voice link.

That all being said, I think the actual source of the issue is still within Teams, as indicated by all of the comments in this thread that have different brands of head sets.

11/2/22- UPDATE- After multiple troubleshooting steps, we have turned off Bluetooth, and that seems to have done the trick. At least so far. Please note this might only work if you have a Poly headset, as the reason my headset still works is because I have a dongle that goes with the headset.

I've tried almost every thing I can do and finally gave it up. However, if you have a Nvidia GPU on your PC, you have a good workaround. Download and install Nvidia Broadcast or Nvidia RTX Voice and set your mic for Nvidia Broadcast (or RTX Voice). When you press mute on Teams, your virtual mic (Nvidia Broadcast) is still on, so no more beeping sound.

I think I found a hack that works for me.

When connecting to Teams meeting, I change the device settings and select the PC microphone instead of the headset.

    Hope you find it useful.
