Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It Works! I can't believe it! The Setting is in Teams.

    I also did not experience the issue in the browser version. BUT, I prefer to use the desktop app anyway. My efforts this morning seem to have fixed the issue, though.

    Hi,

    This did not work for me. I have sennheiser HD 350BT. This is a Microsoft teams issue, It can't be a hardware issue , since it does not happen on zoom (just tested it). For now I will switch to the web browser teams until they fix it or just revert to zoom for meetings.

    I started having this issue this morning during a meeting, I simply turned it off and on again and that got rid of the double beep. At least during the call, I'll have to wait until the next one to see if the issue comes back.

    It looks like MS Teams now uses the Windows Headset Properties to mute a headset in a call.
    The beeping can be reproduced by muting the headset manually in Windows Headset Properties.
