Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

Thanks Daniel - voicemeeter looks interesting.

Yes you're correct we are a business user so I should have access through that channel.

Thanks for the list of certified devices - sadly nothing that's got the great "open ear" design like the OpenComm I'm using - which was awesome up until this issue! Super comfortable and light, and you can hear what's going around you as well as being able to hear the call clearly and hear yourself speak so you can modulate voice levels... So fed up with people nearby yelling at their laptop because they have closed-in headphones on and can't hear themselves!

Anyway - thanks for the help. Cheers!

Same here. Using SHOKZ for about a year without annoying beep. Work around is to go to device settings in teams meeting, then switch mic to pc / laptop and mute. Have to switch mic back in order to talk through headset. What a pain ! Microsoft needs to fix !

Ran into this problem today for the first time using my Sennheiser 450HD headset. So annoying to run into this when your in a meeting!

I've come up with two work-arounds:

    1. If you happen to be on a laptop, in Teams you can set your microphone device to the laptop's built in microphone while leaving speaker set to the headset. This way when you hit the mute button in Teams, it won't be attempting to enable the headset's mute function.

    2. In the case that your headset microphone is your only microphone, you can disable the ability for Windows to control functionality of the headset, including the headset's built in mute function. This is done by opening the Windows Sound Settings, clicking "Device properties and test microphone", then click "Additional device properties", which will open the Headset Properties window. From here click on the Advanced tab, then disable "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device". Hit Apply.

After making this change, I found that when making a test call from the Teams setting menu, the my audio was muted by clicking on the on-screen mute button, but the headset's mute function was not engaged- no more double beep.

I have not tested this in an actual meeting yet, and I'm not certain that their won't be other side effects to changing this setting. YMMV.

    Hope this helps!

I have the same with Sennheiser HD 350BT just started beeping after TEAMS update.
