Aftershokz headset alerting me that my Teams call is muted

In short, no matter how I try to mute my mic, the headset tells me mute is on and double-beeps every few seconds. It happens if I mute the call, mute in call settings, or even if I simply mute in my laptop's sound settings.

Teams does NOT alert me that I'm muted if I use a different headset or no headset -- only using the Aftershokz headset. This is an Aftershokz problem, not a Teams problem, but Aftershokz tech support has been unhelpful. I'm hoping someone here has a workaround.

This problem cropped up last fall, went away, and now is back.

    It's not off topic, because this action will cancel the OS-level mute on the headset (thus stopping the beeping) without bringing the caller off mute in the Teams call. On a Thinkpad you can achieve the same effect by pressing F4 just after you've muted in Teams. You have to put up with the headset bellowing "Mute On" and then "Mute Off" every time you mute but it does mean you can be muted in Teams and not have the beep.

    Unfortunately this workaround does not work anymore since 1.5.00.21668. Now Teams is subscribed to changes within the button described in the 3rd bullet point. Every time I unmute in the settings, unmute also goes in Teams.

    Why cannot it be configurable in Teams? Anyone from Teams' dev team here?

    Yes, things have gotten worse. Now I get the "mute is on" notification and the beeps even when I'm using my laptop's microphone. It's made it impossible for me to mute myself during calls.

    This is getting ridiculous. Where's Microsoft support?

    Same here. Again and again this is disappointing by Microsoft Teams.
