Aftershokz headset alerting me that my Teams call is muted

I have the same question posed in this previous thread, but the solution hasn't worked for me. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/double-beep-when-muted-on-teams-aftershokz/d67018d1-7081-4acf-b688-bf947a524058?page=1

In short, no matter how I try to mute my mic, the headset tells me mute is on and double-beeps every few seconds. It happens if I mute the call, mute in call settings, or even if I simply mute in my laptop's sound settings.

Teams does NOT alert me that I'm muted if I use a different headset or no headset -- only using the Aftershokz headset. This is an Aftershokz problem, not a Teams problem, but Aftershokz tech support has been unhelpful. I'm hoping someone here has a workaround.

This problem cropped up last fall, went away, and now is back.

Unfortunately when I tried that, it disconnected me from the teams meeting.

Since different people are getting successful results with different solutions, some aren't seeing all of the options others are seeing, some encountered the problem much earlier than others, some get a one-time fix from steps that are a permanent fix for others, and some haven't found a successful solution at all, there may be a number of problems all colliding between headsets, hardware, drivers, and teams.

I know that my office only supports one Bluetooth and one wired headset for use with our computers so the tech support department has fewer variables when troubleshooting headset problems. We still run into problems with hardware mute and Teams mute not doing what we expect, though the incantation to fix it can be sent by Teams chat.

Found a solution that appears to be working for now.

Control Panel > Devices and Printers > [Your device] + RMB > Properties > Services > UNTICK Handsfree Telephony

I have had this issue. I contacted support and did not receive their solution for free (they want me to buy their device). Follow up communications are being ignored. With that in mind, my only recourse is to ensure the community understands that an investment may be wasted if the intended use is for remote working where Microsoft Teams is widely utilized. I have spent hours working on this issue, diving through menus and settings, where a temporary solution has only been found. In an effort to drive a culture change in the company (AfterShokz), I am displaying my correspondence which excludes the original submission of 'Hey I am having this specific problem'. Oldest is at the bottom, and newest up top.

I do also believe Microsoft has some skin in this fight. Going off of reports that the Web Based App does not suffer the same as the desktop App seem true. Factor in that IT teams in corporations are unlikely to support 'non sanctioned headsets', the user is left muddling through things trying to correct solo.

Either way, there exists an issue, AfterShokz knows about it, and this is their response. Maybe negative pressure will drive a change.

Good morning, I am following up on my last communication to your company and have not received a response.Regards, George Roth

As a customer I’d like to state that I am disappointed in this response. I do not feel that after paying a premium of $170, before tax, for your headset that directing me to buy a dongle on your website is an appropriate response. Leaving your customer base no way to turn off notifications (I honestly cannot believe your development team thought this was a good idea) that would repeat every 5 SECONDS, was a huge oversight on your company’s part. Lastly, as a customer, who purchased for an intended purpose of professional work, the device no longer fits my needs.  My time is worth something to me. Continuously adjusting settings in Windows, to make your device work, is a huge overstep from your department and I utterly reject this as a solution. I have already invested hours of research trying to adjust settings and have zero interest in maintaining this effort. My ask is that I be provided, free of charge, a permanent no fuss solution to the problem or a complete refund. The onerous part of this is that other than this I really like the headset.I may be reached by phone or email.George Roth

     Hi George,

Thanks for reaching out to us here at Shokz! I'm sorry to hear you're having beeping noise issues with your headphones. No worries, I am here to help!

It's a feature on our headphones that lets you know whenever you're mute. Sadly, there is no way to turn them off. It looks like previously, apps like MS Teams, Zoom, and the like were not affected but for some reason lately, it did.

The good news is that there's a fix for it which is the Loop 100 or the Bluetooth dongle that's available on our website. Here is the link to purchase: https://shokz.com/products/loop-100-wireless-adapter

Firmware updates are also not yet available but we are all hoping that they will be available soon. Though for the meantime, we suggest a workaround like turning off the Mute settings on your actual headphones or doing a full factory reset on the headphones and the impacted application, Hoping to lessen the alert beeps. There are some cases where it turns off for some time and then it gets back again.

Mute the settings on your actual Device.

    1. After joining a meeting, open Device Settings on MS Teams.
    2. Mute yourself. Keep the Device Settings window open.
    3. After 10 seconds, you will hear "mute off" though you did nothing. You are still muted, but no more continuous beep.
    4. Don't close the Device Settings window. It would help if you opened it whenever you mute yourself, otherwise, the beep will resume.

If the above troubleshooting won't work, try to do a full factory reset. Completing a hard reset of the headphones often resolves this issue. If you would be so kind as to complete the following steps, you’ll be able to reset the headphones. Make sure that you restart the device that the headphones are connected to and turn off the Bluetooth prior to starting the reset.

    How to Reset Your Headphones:

    1. Start with your headphones powered off and cleared from your device's Bluetooth settings.
    2. Enter pairing mode by pressing and holding the volume+ button for 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue and you may hear Audrey announce "Pairing."
    3. Press and hold the multifunction button located on the earpiece, the volume+ button, and the volume- button (all three buttons) simultaneously for 3-5 seconds. You'll hear two beeps and/or feel two vibrations.
    4. Turn your headphones off to complete the reset.
Your headphones are now reset and can be connected to your device.

This is also expected if you have Multipoint pairing enabled. I would suggest that you turn it off if you are not going to be using it.

    To turn off Multipoint Pairing:

Hold the volume- (volume minus) button and multifunction button for three seconds while the headphones are in pairing mode. Audrey will say "multipoint disabled".

Please let me know if the reset fixed the problem for you!

    All the best,

    Cheese
