Aftershokz headset alerting me that my Teams call is muted

I have the same question posed in this previous thread, but the solution hasn't worked for me. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/double-beep-when-muted-on-teams-aftershokz/d67018d1-7081-4acf-b688-bf947a524058?page=1

In short, no matter how I try to mute my mic, the headset tells me mute is on and double-beeps every few seconds. It happens if I mute the call, mute in call settings, or even if I simply mute in my laptop's sound settings.

Teams does NOT alert me that I'm muted if I use a different headset or no headset -- only using the Aftershokz headset. This is an Aftershokz problem, not a Teams problem, but Aftershokz tech support has been unhelpful. I'm hoping someone here has a workaround.

This problem cropped up last fall, went away, and now is back.

    Hi, JS.365

Thanks for posting in our community.

According to your description, the issue of your concern that your Aftershokz headset muted after double-beeps.

Unfornately, this is the issue of Aftershokz headset devices typically. We can not do so much for you.

For my suggestion, you need sticking with Aftershokz headset's support and looking for a workaround (or get refund)

Again, I totally understand this is would be annyoing, but I'm afraid that we have no better suggestions in this case.

Thanks for your time and your understanding would be highly appreciated.

    Have a nice day.

    Zed

    Hi,

Just wanted to follow up with information that suggests this may be a Teams problem after all. I just got off a Zoom call where I could mute my headset without any notification that it was muted.

If it happens with Teams but not with Zoom, Teams must have something to do with it.

Can anyone suggest the Teams setting that is causing this to happen?

    Thanks!

    Hi, JS.365

It seems your words "Teams does NOT alert me that I'm muted if I use a different headset or no headset -- only using the Aftershokz headset. This is an Aftershokz problem, not a Teams problem, but Aftershokz tech support has been unhelpful." confused me.

Back to your issue, please be kindly to navigate to your Teams Web App to see if there's a same issue or not.

Also, please be kindly to update your desktop client into the latest version and share it with us that it will help us to test it.

Please feel free to contact us if there's an update.

    Kind Regards,

    Zed

    Zed,

Sorry for the confusion! Here's what I learned:

    1. My desktop app is recently updated (version 1.5.00.9163, updated 4/28/22) but the problem continues.
    2. I do not experience the problem using the web app.

Unfortunately, my work requires me to use the desktop app. There must be a setting that triggers this notification, but I've been through the notifications settings over and over. Any idea how to turn it off?

    Thanks!

This is the second time I have experienced this same issue - it occurred last October and ended up being resolved, somehow. I do consider it a Teams problem with the Aftershokz Trekz Air headset I use, and the issue does not occur with Webex, Zoom, or GoToMeeting. When the mute is selected in MS Teams, it seems like it also turns on the mute on the Trekz Air headset.  When I select mute in Teams, I hear Audrey (the Aftershokz voice) say “Mute On” and then the double beep indicator starts and will go on forever until I un-select mute in Teams, at which point Audrey says “Mute Off.”  I’m presuming that, when I select mute, Teams performs a software mute AND, for some reason now also triggers a hardware mute on the Air headset.  I never used to hear Audrey say mute on or off.  I have tried to unmute the Air headset by holding the headset volume+ and volume- simultaneously, but those commands will not work while in a Teams meeting.  I guess I don’t understand why Teams has to mute both Teams and the headset. The way the mute used to work in Teams (and with other meeting software) was that when mute was selected in Teams, the software would be muted, but the headset would not be muted.  If you spoke, Teams would sense that you were speaking and put a reminder notification on your computer screen letting you know you were muted.  With a double-mute of both Teams and the headset, I don’t get the screen reminder anymore, although right now I receive the incessant beeping mute-on indicator. As I mentioned above, the issue somehow got resolved last October and Teams did not trigger a hardware mute on my headset until again just recently. There is no reason for Teams to trigger the hardware mute . . . it didn't before and doesn't on my old Motorola S305 headset that I now have to use until the issue gets fixed again.
