team mysterious ringing

I am having the same issue. Keep hearing the Teams call sound you hear when calling some, but it continuously loops even after the call. You must close out of Teams to make it stop. I am disabling "Play sound for incoming calls and notifications" under Notifications settings to see if that makes a difference. This issue only started when I connected an external Teams certified speaker(Poly Sync 40).

I think I might have found the solution to this issue, at least it works for a few colleagues here (in our case).

EDIT (2023/Mar/24): all right, so now I have more experience on this topic, I'll update below here my conclusions.

What's going on (justification, from my experience):

• MS Teams keep playing the ringtone after hangup of the call.
• Similar to when you are playing music or a video and eventually an incoming call comes in, MS Teams stops and then resumes the audio playback of the background music, I have confirmed that MS Teams it's also (mistakenly) stopping his own ringtone and resuming itself after the call: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/all/teams-pauses-videoaudio-playing-in-teh-packground/b36969ac-2596-40b5-83fa-8af648aef4b6
• I have verified this issue was only happening when the remote side hang-up earlier than me and (at least in my case) never ocurring when I hang-up earlier, plus a combination of the wireless headphones reaction speed (i.e. mostly through Bluetooth profiles HFP/A2DP auto-switching which is a slow process and the issue is reproduced most times).

So far there are only workarounds (as far as I collected):

• (a) Always working (at least in my setup): in order to avoid it, I rush to first hang-up the call myself (avoid the remote side firstly hang up).
• (b) Always working (alternative): if it already occurred and you need to stop it, I enter Team's settings > Devices, make a test call to the robot, and hang up first.
• (c) Most times working (let's say 70% of times): to stop it, on your headphones press the button to pause song/hang-up and the tone will stop playing inmediately. Depends if the tone was detected by the windows built-in player, you can check this by pressing on your headphones vol+/vol- and see if you only see the dark volume slider (upper left) or both the volume and media playing controls
• (d) Most times working (alternative): if you dont have that button on your headphones, in your keyboard press the "volume up/down" keys, a black pop-up will appear that will allow you to adjust the volume and pause the reproduction. Again it works only when the built-in player has linked to the playing sound:
• (e) Initially worked (only for a while):
• (e.1). In Windows 10, open the sound configuration with either ONE option:
  • (A) (techie option) Press Control+R and run "mmsys.cpl"
  • (B) (simpler option) In the start menu type search for "mmsys.cpl"
  • (C) (user friendly) left click on the loudspeaker icon near the time on the task bar (bottom right), select open sound settings, and choose the blue link on the right column named Sound Control Panel.
• (e.2). Then select the "communications" tab, select the option "Do nothing" and ensure that Teams gets the setting. I suggest to restart to avoid the reproduction loop (see later). However, no matter if the configuration in Control Panel is just to reduce the volume by 80% (which is the default in Windows), to stop it, or do nothing, it is confirmed that MS-Teams does not follow this setting.

• (g) And for sure, if your wireless headphones have dual connection protocols (such as propietary dongle and Bluetooth), test with the original brand dongle versus avoiding the generic bluetooth (which has aditional considerations out of this scope).

I just had a user experience the same issue while using Microsoft Teams. I noticed that the ringer kept ringing even when the call was disconnected by watching the sound output bar showing activity. I could activate the headset and could hear the ringer continuously playing.

To fix the issue:

Right click on the speaker icon and go to Sound Settings.

Change one of the Default options to Speakers or some other option.

Close Sound Settings and try again.

If it went away, you can change the option back to Default.

Ours remained fixed without issue.

This might be it. I've also noticed when playing a video game that has communication enabled that a paused video in a Chrome tab will suddenly start playing while I'm playing. I'll bet it is a similar issue. I've got my default communication device set properly, and the "do nothing" set today. I'm hoping this works! Thanks!

This has to be related to something the system is doing automatically when changing audio profile to communications. Notice in my video here I have a paused YouTube video in a Chrome tab. I also have my default Communications tab setting in mmsys.cpl set to "Do nothing". Yet watch what happens when I change tabs. The audio in my headset switches from full, rich stereo to a tinny audio communication profile...and the video starts playing automatically. When I switch off the tab the video stops playing. Automatically.

I have found that when Teams continues ringing there is sometimes an indication by the system that it is playing the audio file. I can pause playing that audio file if I can catch it in time.

"Do nothing" doesn't seem to be the setting to stop Windows from auto-starting to play the last media file that was playing. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop this behavior when switching to the communication profile? I have a few applications with audio profile settings on my PC like Teams, Zoom, Discord, VMware Horizon. I'm focusing on this behavior of Windows to play the last audio file automatically when switching audio profiles.
