Windows 11 Folder custom Icon Issue

Well, thanks for that. It's better than just nothing, and there is something recognizable there, though the bottom of the folder still blocks a third of the image. Your examples show it's blocking a lot less now. Not sure how to do that, but my OS isn't there yet anyway. It's only at 22000.856, so I imagine it'll be awhile. When it's ready, I'll be back to bug you about ResHacker and IconGroup6. You know a lot more about this workaround than I do.

But, the big question is - Why change something which was working? To show it's a Folder? I KNOW it's a folder! I created it! To preview it's contents? The pic' does the general clue to the contents. That's all I need. Dang! Why'd they go and break something working just fine?

Anyway, yeah . . . I still like the "old way," since then the picture didn't have to be a .jpg, which seem to get unrecognizable to the OS every once in a while. All mine, shown on folders are .png, which prevents the image from vanishing. A little off-track, sorry. Windows 10 is better. With that OS I can see the picture (.png type), the subject and the fact it's a folder. I don't need half the friggin icon coverin' two thirds of the pic'! It looks "shoddy and undone." (Though you did somehow uncover another third percent!)

Anyway, thanks for the bit of a workaround! You did free up some 30% more photo! Unfortunately, ALL my folders have a corresponding picture, of subject.

I don't believe current top management knows what users think. Maybe they use Apple devices! A folder preview had been available for decades!! It's a pain to have to do it for each file however. Then I found it would automatically assign an object in the file without going through that cumbersome process. Great. Now nothing. If there's something out there that I can go to instead, I would. Dear Mr. Satya Nadella, make decisions on what your customers want and actually ask before you remove "services ". $ and stock price seem to be determinant in today's world, not us.

Ah! So, it won't be like roughly like the image below any longer? I must say, MSDN "changed" the broken feature in fixing it. That's a pretty cruddy thing to do! Well, I got half a mind to blow off Windows 11 and go back to 10. Just thinking about it is a "pisser!"

My images are selected, to show ON the folder, NOT in it. Maybe I will wipe the drives and go back to 10. The new deal sucks!

Well, it's definitely NOT what I was hoping for and now I can see how the stupid "previews" got mixed up in here. It IS more like a preview. I'm already kind of missing the "old days."

Well, thank you, Ramesh. I appreciate your post, and did miss your priors, above, since they did look so much like previews of "what's inside." I apologize for that. I'm going back to Windows 10. I'll deal with this when support for Windows 10 craps out.

As I noted earlier on, it's NOT previews that are the issue here. What you have above is nice, but what I want to do is. "Choose a file to show on this folder icon," as stated in the folder Properties/Customization. Someone turned this thread to Previews, which if you go back to page 1, post 1, you can clearly see is not the intent.

As can hopefully surmise, the circled picture (Inside the folder) would be placed on that folder, Windows 10.

Sanjay . . . That is not the issue. The issue is in Folder Properties/Customize, "Choose a File to Show on this Folder Icon." This following gives an approximate representation . . . This IS NOT ABOUT previews, Icon color or anything else. Thank you. (Please see the above display from Windows XP! See THAT is the way it's done!! I.E. "Choose a file to show on this folder icon." (Dang! Those were the good ole days!)
