Windows 11 Folder custom Icon Issue

Original post was about "customize Choose a file to show on this folder icon . . . ."

Not "Change Icon", which is the bottom CUSTOMIZE tab choice - Change Icon WILL USE ' .ddl ' (or .exe and other files - choose any exe file and you will probably find at least 1 icon)

This posting is about choosing a file (an image file) to "show on this folder icon" (the common, little manila folder that all windows folders default to) i believe.

to be clear, i am just responding to your text :

"But when I click on the "Change icon" box, I am not given any other choice than dll files..."

No I replied as I did, because Microsoft DOES monitor these threads and I would like them to see my posts as often as possible. Here is another one . . .

I disagree. IN Windows 11, when you go to folder properties, then customize, it states CLEARLY, "Choose a file to show on the folder icon."

What you write (in part), "With Windows 11, you can no longer see previews of the contents inside the folders," is contrary to the question. What I want to do is show a picture file on the folder, as I could in Windows 10.

If it is not possible to do that, then why does the option still exist in Properties/Customization?

It's not a lot of "hocus pocus!, i.e. Keeping 2 of 3 things closed and yada, yada, yada!

Apparently not. In those Windows Operating Systems, when you clicked "Customize/Choose a file to show on this folder icon," you could click a picture, in that folder and it would be FULLY displayed on the folder. Much like what I have attached. Unfortunately, my Windows 10 system isn't up now, so I cannot give an exact representation, but that is close. (Scott, by the way, you will find on an earlier page in this string.)

This Windows 11 issue has NOTHING to due with emoji's or changing icons.

It is SIMPLY putting a file (such a picture file,) ON TOP of a folder icon. This is doable in OS's as late as Windows 10; not 7 or XP. I have a 10 machine right here and get the correct result. Right click the folder and click "Customize." Select a file to place on the folder and "Apply."

There WERE NO emoji's back then. Sorry.
