make Windows 11 photo thumbnails larger than extra large in file explorer

Now using Windows 11. When I open File Explorer to view photo thumbnails and set the view to Extra Large, it is not any larger than when I set the view to Large. The only difference between Large and Extra Large is that the spacing between thumbnails gets larger -- not the photo itself.
My laptop is still on Windows 10, and Extra Large view there is much larger than the Large view setting.
Can you help?

2022-03-25T18:08:26+00:00 It looks like pictures taken in portrait mode are unfortunately squashed to fit into the 'landscape' format of the Windows11 file explorer. I'm fairly sure this did not happen in windows 10.
