make Windows 11 photo thumbnails larger than extra large in file explorer

Now using Windows 11. When I open File Explorer to view photo thumbnails and set the view to Extra Large, it is not any larger than when I set the view to Large. The only difference between Large and Extra Large is that the spacing between thumbnails gets larger -- not the photo itself.

My laptop is still on Windows 10, and Extra Large view there is much larger than the Large view setting.

Can you help?

    This issue is related with Windows 11 Resolution and scale feature. Go to your display settings and change your resolution. Then adjust the scale of the screen as well. I changed the settings as per my previous Windows 10 settings and it fixed the issue.

    @williamdaugherty5, Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like a WHOLE lot of folks are going to run into this issue, specifically those with gaming or multi-media pc's. I just bought a new Dell XPS 17 with ultra high def screen (3840 x 2400) for graphics work and video editing. Microsoft needs to clearly fix this. What a peculiar miss! Screen resolutions are going to only go up. Won't just be the handful of folks in these two categories.

    I agree! I suggest you file a complaint directly with MS. The more of us that gripe the more likely a fix will be forthcoming:

    Settings > Help & Feedback > Contact Support

    Or just use the feedback hub and search for something like, "explorer extra large icons too small" and upvote all you see!

    While i've seen posts where large and extra large icons are the same size, this thread is about the extra large icons not being large enough. This seems to be the case on higher res screens like mine. It's a known and documented issue. Hopefully, MS will get around to correcting it...
