make Windows 11 photo thumbnails larger than extra large in file explorer

Now using Windows 11. When I open File Explorer to view photo thumbnails and set the view to Extra Large, it is not any larger than when I set the view to Large. The only difference between Large and Extra Large is that the spacing between thumbnails gets larger -- not the photo itself.

My laptop is still on Windows 10, and Extra Large view there is much larger than the Large view setting.

Can you help?

    I am leaving my desktop on Win 10 until this issue is fixed. I had no clue when I "upgraded" my laptop to Win 11. Photographers everywhere are negatively impacted by MS failure to make this a priority in Win 11 and going forward!

    Well written reply. I agree with you 100% on all points. I have been with MS since 1983. It has been downhill ride since Windows XP. It was years before they even got that working half way right. Now 11 is a bad joke that is not funny. I have 3 computers. One Windows 10. One Windows 11 and one I dual boot into Windows 10 or Linux Mint 20. Linux is looking better all the time. It is so easy (and FREE, did I mention FREE) to install now that Grandma can literally install it. It has no viruses. Windows has millions of viruses. It is extremely seecure. And yes you can play games on it. I currently play Elder Scrolls Online on it and it looks awesome and runs smooth. So if MS does not get it together, I WILL format all the machines in Linux for FREE. And depending on the hardware, will install different versions of Linux. There tons of Linux versions with different features from hundreds of companies now. I hope MS wakes up but after watching the current MS CEO who said at one of the online meetings that he did not care what we the customers wanted, we would get what he gave us. Uh huh. You just keep telling yourself that. Good luck and take care.

    hi,

    Thanks for your advice.

    I've tried to change the scale factor but it doesn't change the thumbnails. And I don't think we should lower the resolution otherwise you lose in picture quality.

    It seems to me that it is just another stupid bug from MS..

    Thanks! That is the first useful reply and greatly appreciated! I do have a hi def display. I am a nunce at tech. Is it possible to activate a setting that will downgrade the display but only when showing tnails, and not when opening the pics or otherwise using the laptop?

    I did some tests here with W11 and in my tests, the view from Large to Extra Large there is a lot of difference, what may be happening is a small bug, I suggest that first change to View>List> then change to View>Extra Large Icons .

    If necessary, Ctrl+Shift+Esc> select the process Windows Explorer> Restart.

    If still necessary, check the system files:

    -Right click on start, run PowerShell(admin) or Command Prompt(admin)

    Copy and paste the following command:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    and press Enter.(Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to complete).

    After you see a message saying "The operation completed successfully", copy and paste this command:

    sfc /scannow

    and press Enter.

    Wait for a message that says "Verification 100% complete".
