How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

I'm one of the people who had Windows 11 download itself without me telling it to do so. Now, it is ready for install. I do not want to install Windows 11 at this point. I want to keep my Windows 10.

I've paused it for 7 days, but this is a temporary solution. Can I delete the Windows 11 download somehow? I'm running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell computer.

    What Lynn said above is what I had to do also. Depends on how far the installation progress is.

    You can go in to recovery ( after it has installed) and there will be a button saying 'Recover Windows 10 or Bring back you old Windows 10 or something like that.

    Yeah that option won't work for me. The registry entry isn't there...so how do I stop this from happening? Win 10 22H2

    If there is no folder for Windows Update, you can create one and then proceed according to the instructions. See this article for reference. How to block the Windows 11 upgrade on Windows 10 PCs - gHacks Tech News

    I had to do this with one of my computers and it worked fine. Here is another article that says the same thing. Note Step 3 in particular.

    Disable Windows 11 Upgrade Using DisableOSUpgrade Registry Key

    1. Type regedit in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

    2. Now go to following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows 3. Create a new key under Windows key and set its name as WindowsUpdate. If the key is already present, skip to next step.

    4. Now in right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableOSUpgrade and set its value to 1

    I'm the original author of the this question. I did successfully edit the registry and set it to Windows 10 Home (that is what it always was). The Target version is set at 22H2.

    Windows 11 installation has never shown its face again on my computer. However, in the near future when support for Windows 10 comes to end of life in 2025, what changes do I make to my registry so that when the time comes I can update my computer to Windows 11?

    Lynn Christy: I'm hoping you can jump in on this as you and I were deep into stopping Windows 11 and did edit our registry.
