How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

I'm one of the people who had Windows 11 download itself without me telling it to do so. Now, it is ready for install. I do not want to install Windows 11 at this point. I want to keep my Windows 10.

I've paused it for 7 days, but this is a temporary solution. Can I delete the Windows 11 download somehow? I'm running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell computer.

    I incidentally upgraded and now my whole system is jacked! I can't find my files, My screen closed every 2 minutes when I have it set for 20 minutes, and I want it back the way it was. How can I uninstall and revert back to my last update 10 I belief without messing up my files? I have a usb but the way the system changed it will take a rocket scientist years to add them. HELP PLEASE!

    How many days have you had Windows 11 totally installed and running? I cannot stress enough that you only have 10 days after installing Windows 11 to downgrade back to Windows 10. After that, you must perform a full reinstallation of Windows 10.

    So far, it seems to have worked. I accidentally clicked upgrade to 11, but it had not fully downloaded yet or begun installing. I stopped Microsoft Update Service in Windows Management, then deleted everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. Then I re-scanned for updates again, and the prompt returned asking if I wanted to upgrade to Windows 11. This time I chose to stay on Windows 10 for now.

    What does the 'bits' program do? Why does it need to stop?

    BTW, I believe your shell comand has the same effect as going to 'Services' and disabling 'Windows Update' from the menu as some have suggested. The problem I'm seeing is something keeps restarting it, but its sets it to manual mode (which would be ok if I can trust that it's going to work in this mode.)

    BTW, I have the Home edition. I think ya'll have the Pro.

    PS: The Windows developers are so inept they don't even have a 'status' option like Linux, so we can't even check: net status wuauserv to see if the stop command has worked. smh
