How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

I'm one of the people who had Windows 11 download itself without me telling it to do so. Now, it is ready for install. I do not want to install Windows 11 at this point. I want to keep my Windows 10.

I've paused it for 7 days, but this is a temporary solution. Can I delete the Windows 11 download somehow? I'm running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell computer.

That feature no longer exists and you have to download it from a Third Party.

Hi, again, Portland. As luck/coincidence would have it, I have just now received the 21h2 update. In Windows 10. My computer had already checked for updates this morning, but when I hit "Check for Updates," there it was, all ready to download. Didn't take any longer than some of the cumulative updates, required one re-start and now I am good to go -- in Windows 10 -- for another 2.5 years.

So now I am curious as to whether you have been/will be also offered 21h2 even tho your target version in registry says 21h1. My change in registry to 21h2 a couple of days ago to 21h2 may not have been the reason I got the 21h2 via normal updates, but I was getting concerned that I would miss out on it while they are rolling it out as long as my target was 21h1.

I have an older, slow-as-molasses desktop computer that I rarely use anymore that is still on 20h2, so now my next project is to see if I can bring that computer up to date as well.

    Hi Lynn,

Apparently you are now one lucky woman! I will not receive the update to 21H2 unless I change that target version to it. Just like you did right? Then in a day or two, I'll receive that update.

QUESTION: After you got the new version of 21H2, was there the box that asked you wanted to upgrade to Windows 11 or were you given the option to "stay on windows 10 for now"?

If you are all set and there is nothing about windows 11 now that you have upgraded, then I will change the target version also to 21H2.

    Waiting for your reply.

LOL. I FEEL like one lucky woman! Since my last message, I checked for updates yet again on my old desktop (which I had also done the registry edit for, to get 21h2) and lo and behold, there it was starting to download Windows 10 21h2 -- even though an hr before it had told me I was up to date. All went like clockwork, hopping directly from 20H2 to 21h2. So now both of my computers are set.

On the Surface Pro, there is just the note in the right margin telling me "This PC can run Windows 11, Great news—your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. Specific timing for when it will be offered can vary as we get it ready for you." and a link where I can "learn more about Windows 11" -- same as it has been ever since I did the registry edit about a month ago. But nothing intrusive, nothing asking me to do anything about Windows 11. So at some point in the future I may have to choose "stay with Windows 10" vs. take Windows 11. Having made the wrong choice the last time (because I was given the choice and did not realize what a big, unwanted change Windows 11 was) I will know this time to decline if it is offered. But my understanding is that the 21h2 version of 10 was offered specifically as an alternative to Windows 11 for those who didn't want it or whose computers could not run it. And I think that now that Windows 10 21h2 is my target version and is what I have, I would have to actively override that to get Windows 11.

On the old desktop, that same right margin area informs me that my computer cannot run Windows 11. So I know it will not ever come up there as an option.

    Hope this helps.

Your message above helped me. I'll change my target version to 21h2 and then pray to the gods I'm all good.

One more quick question if you don't mind: How did you type in EXACTLY 21h2? With the lower case 'h' or an upper case 'H'?
