The bottom line point is it is not as simple as going into your file explorer and finding the folder and deleting the download which is what I believe you are referring to. Apparently, there is a certain way of removing the download, and it involves a maneuver that the response above yours by username JoJun was alluding to - read his last line at least in which he talks about being "too chicken" to try the "registry block fix answers." This is because of the potential risk of making a small mistake in the process which could create many more issues for you.

Thanks. I do know that there is more to it than deleting the Download files. In fact, since my last post I got brave and followed the registry change instructions to a T. Found some YouTube tutorials that showed every step on the screen and it was actually pretty easy. Nothing awful has happened -- all is as it was on my computer. But when I unpaused updates, Windows 11 started downloading just like I had done nothing! That is why I think JoJun's alert that you have to also delete the whole "catalog" may hold the answer!

I agree with you. This whole windows 11 chaos has caused extreme distress with the rest of us that are not computer techs.

I find it unforgivable that Microsoft has rolled it out this way. As one fellow said "I wish there was a Senior citizen Opt Out" button and then be done with it. Unfortunately, that is not the case and here are stuck with either attempting to change the registry or keep pausing for 35 days until we fly the white flag of surrender and let Windows 11 install.

I know that you are given the option to Rollback to Windows 10 and I have lost track of how many people did that and then their computer was really screwed up.

I'm not a microsoft tech, but given what you described I would assume Windows 11 is going to try to install again as now it has the amount of free disc space it needs to install.

We'll see what someone else says, but I'll bet you are going to be in the same position I'm in. Pausing until I give in and let it install.

I don't not believe you actually delete the whole folder. Only the contents. (This was your other question you asked). I have read, though, that folks who did that found themselves once again with Windows 11 downloading and simply reproducing itself in the software distribution folder.
