How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

Wow...you did it! This thread is so long so is it possible to post here exactly what I should do in the registry?

This is what I have:

Edition Windows 10 Home

Version          20H2

Great that you managed to solve the problem yourself!

Extra great that you went back and deleted the values from the wrong path.

I don't think they would have caused any harm, but tidying it up is definitely better.

For anyone else hesitating to do this because of the risk of messing up the registry: You can create a 'system restore point' that you can use to undo any mistakes. I won't derail the thread by explaining it here. Google it and you will find many pages and videos explaining the process.

Great News!! (I think!)

I had somehow missed the idea that I could ADD a folder for WindowsUpdate if there was none. So I added it in, followed the instructions all over again, and this time it did not revert to that wrong pathway once I made my entries. I also went back to that wrong pathway and deleted what I had added there yesterday. Re-started, went to Update, unpaused.... and it began installing a cumulative update for Windows 10! Windows 11 has been reduced to a "Great news! Your PC meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11" in the sidebar, but no attempt to start a download.

Thank you so much, JoJun, for pointing out what was going on in the pathway. When it started out seeming to accept the pasted-in correct pathway, I never noticed that it was reverting every time to the wrong one while I was busy carefully following the steps for the entries. Without your comment, I would still be spinning my wheels. But now (fingers crossed) it looks like the days of forced Windows 11 downloads are over. My computer checked for updates, found the cumulative update for Windows 10, and all proceeded totally normally.

To the other frustrated users in this thread: Take heart! It only took a few days of my life.

JuJun, I'm sorry if I am becoming a pest, but I have made a discovery. Every time I cut and paste the correct pathway in, any keystroke (including the ones used to implement the changes yesterday) causes it to go to the different pathway you spotted in my printout -- which I didn't realize it was doing, since I started out in the right place.

So I tried using the file tree in the side bar to get to the correct place and find that it will only go this far:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows There is no choice of WindowsUpdate underneath Windows. I tried manually typing in the \WindowsUpdate and it would not go there. It would seem, then, that on this Surface Pro computer the address must be something different??

I also do not seem to be able to keep it from adding Computer\ in front of the whole string.

I'm not asking you to solve this for me, as you have already been more than generous with your time. But I did want to update my response to you.

JoJun, Thank you. But actually I did use the registry path you posted (used a cut-and-paste from this thread) and that IS the registry path that shows up when I check it. But the minute I try to do a screen print (which won't work) or go to print to PDF, it changes to what you see. But truly, when I open the page using the correct path you give here and that has been given elsewhere in this thread and at various other places online, that top line changes. Part of the mystery, maybe??
