How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

I'm one of the people who had Windows 11 download itself without me telling it to do so. Now, it is ready for install. I do not want to install Windows 11 at this point. I want to keep my Windows 10.

I've paused it for 7 days, but this is a temporary solution. Can I delete the Windows 11 download somehow? I'm running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell computer.

    If there is no folder for Windows Update, you can create one and then proceed according to the instructions. See this article for reference. How to block the Windows 11 upgrade on Windows 10 PCs - gHacks Tech News

    I had to do this with one of my computers and it worked fine. Here is another article that says the same thing. Note Step 3 in particular.

    Disable Windows 11 Upgrade Using DisableOSUpgrade Registry Key

    1. Type regedit in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

    2. Now go to following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows 3. Create a new key under Windows key and set its name as WindowsUpdate. If the key is already present, skip to next step.

    4. Now in right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableOSUpgrade and set its value to 1

    Yeah that option won't work for me. The registry entry isn't there...so how do I stop this from happening? Win 10 22H2

    You can go in to recovery ( after it has installed) and there will be a button saying 'Recover Windows 10 or Bring back you old Windows 10 or something like that.

    I think it may depend on how far the updating has gotten before it is paused. In my case, the installation was providentially stalled by a lack of available disk space. So I kept updates on pause while I searched for the answer -- which I found in this thread in the form of the instructions about changing the registry key (in one of the first couple of pages in this long thread). The folder-emptying stage in those instructions seemed to take care of the partial installation process that was halted.
