How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

I'm one of the people who had Windows 11 download itself without me telling it to do so. Now, it is ready for install. I do not want to install Windows 11 at this point. I want to keep my Windows 10.

I've paused it for 7 days, but this is a temporary solution. Can I delete the Windows 11 download somehow? I'm running Windows 10 on a brand new Dell computer.

    Thanks for mentioning this, JoJun.

I didn't check the folder on C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download previously. This makes a lot of sense now.

I was able to move the user back to Windows 10. I checked, and the registry keys were still there after the rollback. When I checked the path "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" there were data files on it. As you mentioned, if the update was already saved previously to the registry key modifications, it could get installed after a reboot.

I deleted the information inside the folder (not the folder), and I'm keeping an eye on the computer. Hopefully, it will stay in Windows 10 now.

Thanks so much for your time and for helping me find a logical explanation for this problem.

Yes, I know *YOU* have solved your problem, PortlandMT.

However, G-17 hasn't, and since just changing the registry key is sometimes ineffectual, I tried to point out a possible explanation to them.

You are referring to deleting everything in the download folder. I did that first and then changed the registry.

If you rollback to Windows 10, you are back at the beginning. Then do all the registry steps again.
