Bluetooth disappeared (Windows 11)

Update: Resolved issue by disconnecting PC from power (unplugging from wall) for 10 minutes and then restarting. Baffling.

Bluetooth services disappeared several weeks ago and I've been trying to get it back. Here's what I've found so far:

  • Bluetooth troubleshooter couldn't solve it
  • Restarting Bluetooth Services - I have done this, and have set all to start automatically however BluetoothUserService_5aacd will not allow me to move it from Manual to Automatic, I get a "The parameter is incorrect" error
  • I uninstalled and reinstalled the BT drivers, which did not fix the issue
  • I have uninstalled Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) within Device Manager, and restarted computer, which reinstalled the Intel BT but did not fix the issue (note: my Device Manager is constantly refreshing/ flashing, unsure if related)

Thank you in advance for your help!

EDIT: I was able to update BluetoothUserSErvice to start automatically at start up, correcting the "parameter is incorrect error". This did not resolve my bluetooth problem.

Hi ADP,

Sharing my experience with the hope that it helps others resolve their bluetooth issue as well. My bluetooth had disappeared suddenly without any cause or reason and it did not come back by reinstalling the device drivers, or resetting the bluetooth services, or by trying a lot of other solutions. Bluetooth had disappeared from Device Manager and replaced with a mystery USB device. Nothing seemed to bring it back.

Eventually what worked is to shut down the laptop completely and disconnect the power cable and kept it shut for about 10 minutes before starting it up again. (make sure it is fully shut down and not sleep and not restarted)

Laptop : Asus zendesk with Windows 11 Pro 21H2 (updated to the latest fixes). Uses Intel Wireless Bluetooth drivers.

The solution is based on the following thread with similar issues for Windows 10. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/bluetooth-capability-not-detected-windows-10/0db9ce62-eba9-4b85-9e5c-15336f41bfe3?page=2

    Hello,

My computer's bluetooth disappears when I put it in sleep mode. I found out that updating the Dell system BIOS fixes it...until I put it back to sleep...and it goes away again! Now the Wi-Fi capability is also gone. Every time I update the system it fixes everything, but sometimes I have to update the laptop twice a day. It's pretty frustrating.

Does anyone know what could be happening to the computer?

    Thanks,

    Antonio

Thanks SBM15. Your solution (weird and illogical as it seems) worked for me when nothing else did. Such a simple fix, but what a bizarre issue - my PC just suddently deciding it didn't have bluetooth.

    Thanks.

    Steve

"Eventually what worked is to shut down the laptop completely and disconnect the power cable and kept it shut for about 10 minutes before starting it up again. (make sure it is fully shut down and not sleep and not restarted)"

What in the name of physics and engineering! ;)

    This worked for me (fix):

My Device Manager listed "Unknown USB Device Descriptor Request Failed", which was strange since BT wasn't showing. Meanwhile I re-installed latest Intel BT and Wi-Fi drivers. Then, I uninstalled (removed) the "Unknown USB Device Descriptor Request Failed" and scanned again. Suddenly Bluetooth is back listing and Icon appearing and switched "On" in Settings. Have to monitor the situation of course.

Supporting references here, which mentions four root-causes all very deep, HW-near.

    6/6/22

A: Problem returns: Random drop of "Device Descriptor Request Failed", however(!) BT seems to be working in background. Icon disappears. I'm going to order new Wi-Fi HW and hope.

B: Icon appears if re-activated from Bluetooth Settings. No clue what deactivated it.

C: Latest Intel driver installed (not offered from official Intel site, just Windows): Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 22.140.0.4

Problem "Device Descriptor Request Failed" happens again after several seconds of fresh Windows start. (I start to think my BT is Ok, but something else is wrong.)

D: At some point in time, the mouse wheel is gone or stuck, then comes back. Not had this before at any point in time with MX Anywhere II or new DELL BT-Mouse.

    7/6/22

A: Hard disconnect of all BT with fast re-connect of all devices. It completely disrupts, all connections suddenly drop, Mouse was frozen for 3 secs. Then re-connects fast, re-initiates all services. Device Manager is fine. Icon is back fine. What is this?!

B: Nope, 5 Mins. later it's "Device Descriptor Request Failed" times again ffs. It can be uninstalled, disappears, then seems fine.

    Appendix:

Wrong thread. I'm using latest Windows 10.
