Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.376)

The latest couple of updates continually fail - it retries and they fail with the same error. Have run DISM / SFC and both say no issues found. Have run the windows update troubleshooter, including following steps to reset windows update, and that has made no difference. Other windows updates seem to install OK - just these two fail.

Tried downloading the two update packages as stand-alone installers to manually install as well from windows download site, but they also failed to install.

  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5008880)
    Install error - 0x800f0922
  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5009566)
    Install error - 0x80071ab1

Some forums said one could be due to disk space, but all my disks have hundreds of GB free.

The steps didn't work for me either, but after failing all the different methods this worked for me.

Go into services.msc and scroll down to app readiness, if it is disabled, enable it and press start. Download the updates and try updating and it should work!

Your solution gave me a clue, I checked my Event Viewer and saw the same error before the update. So I researched for a solution to that problem and it fixed my issue. Here is the solution:

     1.     Click Start Image, type cmd in the Start Search box, and then right-click cmd in the Programs list.

    2.     Click Run as administrator, and then click Continue. Image
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    3.     At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\ Note These steps assume that Windows is installed in the default location, on drive C. If this is not the case, adjust the drive letter of the folder path to match your configuration.

    4.     Restart the computer.

This worked for me as well. Thank you @DiogoCDO! a beer be owed!

@Mods: this should be marked as a solution as well
