Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.376)

The latest couple of updates continually fail - it retries and they fail with the same error. Have run DISM / SFC and both say no issues found. Have run the windows update troubleshooter, including following steps to reset windows update, and that has made no difference. Other windows updates seem to install OK - just these two fail.

Tried downloading the two update packages as stand-alone installers to manually install as well from windows download site, but they also failed to install.

  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5008880)
    Install error - 0x800f0922
  • 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5009566)
    Install error - 0x80071ab1

Some forums said one could be due to disk space, but all my disks have hundreds of GB free.

    Good Day Seajayshome,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 11 pc and community member like you.

It appears that there's a bug with those two updates , other community members also reported that the are experiencing the same issue in installing the updates. You are not the only one who is experiencing this issue right now.

You can temporary paused the update while Microsoft working on a fix to install the updates, other community members also having issues installing the broken update at the moment.

I will keep you posted once I get an update with these bug.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

Your solution gave me a clue, I checked my Event Viewer and saw the same error before the update. So I researched for a solution to that problem and it fixed my issue. Here is the solution:

     1.     Click Start Image, type cmd in the Start Search box, and then right-click cmd in the Programs list.

    2.     Click Run as administrator, and then click Continue. Image
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    3.     At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\ Note These steps assume that Windows is installed in the default location, on drive C. If this is not the case, adjust the drive letter of the folder path to match your configuration.

    4.     Restart the computer.

The latest out-of-band update released on 17th Jan seems to have resolved the issues:

KB5010795 (OS Build 22000.438) 2022-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems

After installing that via windows update, KB5009566 disappeared and KB5008880 installed without a problem.

(Could a mod mark this is the answer please? :)

Using Windows Update I just tried to install KB5010795. It download it and then got about 45% into install before it came back with: "We couldn't install this update, but you can try again (ox800f0922)."
I've rebooted and tried again but got the same thing.

For me it is still an issue.

KB5008880 got to 100% install before it came back with Install error - 0x800f0922
