Can't switch out of S mode: "Try that again"

I recently purchased a laptop that came with the S mode of Windows. On the first startup it automatically installed Windows 11 (so downgrading to 10 is not an option). After set up etc. I updated Microsoft Store and installed various Windows updates and tried to switch it out of S mode. Instead, for the past few hours and with each of the hundreds of attempts, I keep getting a window that says "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help" along with an error code that changes every time. I am burned out and all out of ideas, any assistance on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Have you done this?

What does seem to work for other users is to perform a reinstall using Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using windows update > Reinstall now.

Right there in the same boat. I've done all the updates, just got this today since my kid's other laptop broke (that wasn't in S mode). He's going to a coding camp tomorrow and I can't get Minecraft installed, even though it's advertised in the store, because it's not meant for S mode. So incredibly frustrated!

neilpzz, thanks so much. Your suggestion worked fine. Pity Microsoft Help don't provide such a solution. I have a brand-new laptop and had the same problem referred to here. For some reason it hadn't fully updated everything on initial setup....
