Can't switch out of S mode: "Try that again"

I recently purchased a laptop that came with the S mode of Windows. On the first startup it automatically installed Windows 11 (so downgrading to 10 is not an option). After set up etc. I updated Microsoft Store and installed various Windows updates and tried to switch it out of S mode. Instead, for the past few hours and with each of the hundreds of attempts, I keep getting a window that says "Try that again. Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help" along with an error code that changes every time. I am burned out and all out of ideas, any assistance on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

I kept on trying this throughout the day in between other things.

Eventually, eventually it worked after about 10 hours.

I did re-boot my laptop several times but can't say if that had any impact, I suspect not.

Unfortunately, it's just a question of perseverance. Be prepared to try dozens of times.

I have to admit I was on the point of sending the PC back.

Me too. Same issue with a new vivobook.

The last laptop I got 2 years ago, it automatically prompted with option to switch out of safe mode.

This is so frustrating. life is just too short. Why has this issue been gooing on for so long????

A year and a half later and it appears this still is an issue. I just purchased an Asus Vivo series laptop and I cannot switch out of S Mode. I cannot add any apps from the Microsoft Store or set up my wireless printer. Why hasn't this issue been resolved?
