So randomly last night (about 12 hours ago) my laptop with Windows 11 shows the above error message when I input my pin.
"This sign-in option is disabled because of failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns. Use a different sign-in option, or keep your device powered on for at least 2 hours and then try again".
Prior to this, I used my laptop normally and everything was fine. I did not put in the pin several times and certainly not repeatedly shut down my laptop, so I'm not sure where this even comes from.
From what I understand, my only chances to log back in my laptop are to:
I can't do solution 1 because my laptop powers down after like 30 seconds, so I cannot keep it powered on for 2 hours unless I press a button on my laptop every 29 seconds for 2 hours.
For solution 2, the different sign in method asks me to put in a password, not sure which password this is. It can't be the password that I use to log in to my Microsoft account online because it says that's incorrect.
Now, following from solution 2, I get the option to reset this password, by answering 3 memorable questions, but here too at least 1 of memorable questions is incorrect.
Can I get back into my laptop without having to factory reset everything?
Does anyone know if the 2 hours wait need to be consecutive?

EDIT: It has been 11 months and people still seem to have the same issue as me. Microsoft, please fix this bug / glitch. It's obviously causing a lot of headaches. I was able to simply factory reset my laptop as everything I had was backed up elsewhere, but I'm sure 90% of the people here cannot do this because the laptop still has vital stuff not backed up else where. Even if they could backup, it's a really long and painful process to set the laptop back up.
This really needs to be addressed asap please :)

Hi Mosken. I have the same problem. I have waited for 2 hours, sighted in on my phone (to check account etc). However my laptop is still disabled. I’ve tried a reset with files kept but still locked out. I don’t want to do a factory reset as I’ll lose data. Any suggestions. Microsoft need to sort this.
Not sure if this would work for everyone but I have an Asus motherboard and I found I could get around the issue if I went into my bios as it's starting up and then immediately exited the bios
I have the same issue, but unlike most people here, I have a desktop. I don't know if that makes a difference, but there it is. Same "disabled for two hours thing" when I try to sign on if the computer shuts down by itself for power saving. If I shut the PC off, then it usually restarts w/o this issue.
If I wait the two hours after power on, then it lets me right in on all profiles with the pin numbers I've used since the thing was new. It's the **** thing.
I might add, this is a four year old HP Pavilion and I don't have I began having issues with the power supply a year ago where it would not turn on unless I unplugged it for 5 seconds first. I replaced the power supply and it worked for 3 months and began doing it again. Only this time, I had upgraded to Windows 11. After the upgrade, it now does the disabled for two hours thing. I believe the power supply issue to be directly related to this issue. Maybe... most likely...
Actually I have tried all methods but the codes is not coming
The same problem has been happening to my computer continously almost once every week. It doesn't let me sign in for 2 hours. How dumb Microsoft is. What is the point of implementing this functionality, security is not so important for home users. No wonder Apple is beating Microsoft in home computers. Please remove thos option from your operating system. Now tell me how to disable it.
