I have an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner that I can't get to run on Windows 11. I did an install with the disk that came with the scanner, then downloaded the latest driver update from Epson, but when I try to run it, I get a message saying "Can't communicate with scanner." Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really need to use this scanner.

I am working with a V550 Photo and followed your instructions. The scanner now communicates with the PC but it comes up with a fully automatic icon that saves the scan to my photo file without any directions.. Scanner is "working" but can't be controlled. Any suggestions.

The HP5590 scanner is too old. Its not Microsoft's problem. Its only up to HP to provide compatibility for it and they've discontinued it previously and no longer support it.
However, if the scanner had Ethernet or wifi then it would probably work even today as no manufacturer drivers are necessary in that case and unfortunately it doesn't appear to. Its just too old.
If you want to use it then likely Linux will as it does well with older things for the most part. If you really want to use it then this is how you would do so on today's OS's. If you can't do so then get a friend or relative that can set you up that way or buy a new scanner.
Those are your options besides buying a used computer with an older OS on it.

I had a problem with my ES-300w, and Epson and Microsoft did the same thing; Epson blaming Microsoft and MIcrosoft blaming Epson. I finally got mine to work by installing the C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. I know it's a different model, but maybe it might work for you?
I have experienced the same thing with an HP5590 scanner on Win 11. I reverted to using a Win 10 instead, (on a different machine) and all was OK until I installed the latest Win 10 upgrade, 22H2, when the scanner was also unrecognised. I uninstalled 22H2, and the scanner was recognized.
Please, Microsoft, sort this out. This is not good.
