Random Mouse Stutter/Lag Windows 11

Thank you for posting this!! I know your post is a few months old, but I have been searching for 2 weeks for a solution to this problem. It seems to have started after a Windows 11 update a few weeks ago.

I bought a new Logitech mouse and a mouse pad, thinking that would help. It didn't.

My mouse is set for left-handed use, and the PC is on the right-hand side, on my desk. I just changed the dongle from a port in the back to one of the front ports. It made an immediate difference, though I don't know how long it will last.

So rather accidentally I've resolved my issue ...for now ... so far. I just put together a new rig (MB, CPU memory), and after Windows 11 making me re-activate, some settings seemed to revert to default. When I changed Power settings to Ryzen Performance my mouse became nearly unusable with stutter, leaping across the screen, etc. Changed Power back to Balanced and all is well. Makes no sense...Ryzen 7 - 7700X (8 core, 16 threads), 32G memory, 850W power supply. Something in the Windows 11 Insider - Dev build is screwy. Just part of the fun I signed up for! LOL. 😉😅

This happens to me intermittently, sometimes to the point of making my computer nearly unusable. Depending on my config and the computer's mood, it will affect either my external mouse or my external keyboard or both. Sometimes briefly, other times it's very disruptive for hours Happens wired and wireless. No one else at my company has reported this issue, but it follows me across work computers but does not happen with the same keyboards and mice on any of my 3 personal computers.

Work computers are all Windows 10. Personal computers I've tested with no issues include Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Typing this all out makes it seem like it may be the work config somehow, but we don't have any other users reporting this same issue.

I've been doing IT for 15 years and currently do tier 2 support for a medium sized company. I'm extensively familiar with troubleshooting and generally quite good at it, but like all humans I sometimes miss even obvious things.

Things I've tried:

Rebooting

Connecting only my keyboard and mouse and eliminating hubs and displays

Reinstalling drivers

BIOS updates

Using USB for both mouse and keyboard, or combinations: having the best luck with a wired keyboard and bluetooth mouse

A new computer: Two identical Dell Latitude 7420, and now a Dell Precision 5560, all importantly with the same standard config from my work

A new mouse: Tried a cheapo USB provided by work, a Razer Trinity Naga, a Logitech G502 Hero, and currently a Logitech MX Master 3 bluetooth mouse

A new keyboard: 2 decent quality USB-only keyboards (Razer and G Skill), cheapo work provided USB keyboard, and currently a Keychron that works over USB or bluetooth, connected via USB

Using wifi or a wired connection: currently connected via Ethernet with 250 mbps of bandwidth that I never approach

My mouse is so aggressively stuttery at the moment it's difficult to click the "Submit" button.

I discovered that unplugging an external hard drive solved the issue. I have 2 usb 3 ports on the front of my pc and if I plug any sort of disk into the second port, after 10 minutes or so it starts to stutter. I gave up on using the mouse using Bluetooth as it just dropped the connection every 2 to 3 minutes.

I'm now using a logitech mx vertical mouse which cost 110 euro but my 20 euro mouse behaves in exactly the same way. Bluetooth behaviour as with the cheap mouse.

Note that plugging in the mouse via its USB C cable for charging works fine so it only seems to affect wireless devices.

I posted this in May 2022, and it still works perfectly...

POSSIBLE ISSUE BYPASS/FIX

I bought the following Mouse thinking that a gaming mouse with a dongle used might be different enough to not have the "Jiggle Virus"?

I have been using it since 5/12/22 and no jittering at all. I occasionally will use my Microsoft Surface Precision Mouse and it still jitters. I go back to the Razer Mouse and NO issues.

I will let you all know if the jiggle starts up.

This mouse isn't cheap; but if it permanently stops the jiggles and the related frustration... $89 is worth it.
