I used the Windows HDR calibration tool.
After I was done calibrating it and it generated a new color profile, taking screenshots via the snipping tools worked as expected.
Haven't tested it extensively but so far it works fine.

Hello, I am inquiring about an issue I can't seem to solve (without turning HDR off all-together, which defeats the purpose of having it even be an option in Windows 11)
In recordings (primarily using OBS) and in screenshots (with snip and sketch) everything appears extremely over-exposed / bright with HDR enabled. This is a big problem for me as I actually, well, want to use the OS normally. I record lots of clips and take many screenshots and I've finally gotten fed up of it and am now looking for a solution. Any help appreciated, thanks
(snip and sketch has since stopped doing it, however it likes to do it randomly now. commonly happens in fullscreen programs and also my web browser for some reason)

Thanks for the tip about WIN + ALT + B. Still kind of annoying that I have to manually disable HDR, just to take a screenshot, and then turn it back on every time. I've had this issue for over a year now, I'm surprised it still hasn't been resolved.
It is pretty bad. Games require that you adjust your brightness/HDR calibration within the game. For games that support HDR that’s usually all it takes. It’s either under video or general/game.
For games that don’t support HDR, you’re generally better off turning off Windows HDR completely. Auto HDR is hit or miss. For some games it works, for most it does not. WIN + ALT + B swaps HDR mode, so if I know a game doesn’t support HDR I just swap back to SDR before playing.
I have tried this. It works for a little bit. But if I lock the screen and come back an hour later, my whole screen is dark again, I have to adjust the gamma settings again. So pretty much every time I unlock my device I need to adjust my gamma settings. This is very annoying. If I launch a game that supports HDR or auto HDR, while the gamma hasn’t been adjusted, the game looks horrible. I have also been using a Mac with HDR, and they have it figured out. I hope Microsoft fixes this issue. We shouldn’t have to adjust gamma settings to “fix” an issue that clearly is a software related issue. I’m using popular Intel/Nvidia hardware. Microsoft should have better support. HDR support is bad.
Dude do you even use WIndows? do you even work there? or have any idea of windows? the HDR is auto enabling itself EVEN IF IT DISABLED and when i try to record something with xbox game bar the screen just flicker and shuts down..........
