Final Edit: I'm updating this thread for future users. The problem is solved! Nvidia have released a new driver that fixes the issue. It's been in use for over 10 days as of time of writing and all reports are that the XPS 15 9560 is stable again.

Thank you to everyone who came hear and contributed their voice into the mix, and thank you Nvidia Manuel for hearing us and providing updates. I'll leave the workarounds up and in the post just in case the problem arises again in the future.

Original post below:

My laptop (Dell xps 15 9560 windows 10 21H2) has been repeatedly BSODing. It was doing this about 3-4 weeks ago. I made a post here, spoke to someone and implemented their fix and thought I was done as everything returned to normal. Yet the problem persists as of the most recent windows update.

Things I have done:

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers from manufacturers with a clean install using DDU in safe mode

Rolled back the most recent windows update

Installed all the updates from Dell support

Attempted to repair files with the sfc /scannow command

Reinstalled DirectX

Cried a little bit

As of about an hour ago I'm still having the same blue screen fatal error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Liam

Edit 1: Thought it best to post this here so it's on every page for new comers. Members of this thread with 9560s suffering constant BSODs have found that disabling the GTX1050 graphics card in the device manager results in system stability. Yes, this is not an acceptable long term solution, we didn't buy these machines to have them hamstrung like this. But equally this does completely fix the BSOD issue. This is a temporary band-aid fix until a real solution presents itself.

Band Aid Method:

  1. Press windows key + x
  2. Select device manager from list
  3. Navigate to Display Adapters and double click
  4. Locate NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 from the drop down options
  5. Right click on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and select Disable device
  6. Bingo. You did it.

Your 9560 is now stable for office use, internet browsing, and lite graphic design work. I've been using Illustrator with a very minor performance hit.

One user has noted that you can fire up your system with the GTX1050 disabled, reenable it, and perform graphics heavy tasks with it as long as you disable the GTX1050 before the machine goes into sleep mode or restarts, etc, then everything remains stable. It's a pain in the ****, but for some of you with more demanding tasks that are on a deadline it might work in a pinch.

Edit 2: Some members of this thread have had success rolling their Nvidia drivers back to version 27.21.14.6109. This appears to stop the BSOD issue while keeping the gtx1050 active and stable. This can be found on Dell's website with a little searching. Anyone using this method should be aware that drivers are updated for a reason. Utilizing this method could leave your system open to security threats, etc. In my opinion this is still only a band-aid fix.

Hello everyone. I wanted to share possibly the last update. Next week we will be releasing a new Game Ready Driver which will include a fix for this issue. As I stated in the past, this was resolved by reproducing a crash on a different Dell notebook that produced a crash dump file with the same signature as that shared by users to me in this thread and coming up with a fix for that. So while we were not able to 100% confirm the fix since we do not have a Dell XPS 9560 in our labs, I would recommend users give the next driver update a try and then share your feedback. Thank you all for your help and your patience.

    Hello @NVIDIA_Manuel

We have an XPS 9560 which is a production (work) machine used heavily by Adobe Premiere and After Effects. We first noticed the BSOD in March/2022 using multiple monitors on a zoom call, which was unfortunate in that it the zoom was a job interview for graphics design work. Since then the BSOD is mostly related to heavy graphics usage but can occur at any time. It IS however difficult / impossible to reproduce at will, which I realize is not helpful. We will try to make notes on what the context of the BSOD is.

Do you still want us to contribute memory dump files? Let us know if there is anything else that could help as inputs.

Thank you for pursing this with your team. Stating the obvious, disabling the 1050 is not a solution.

I also have a 9560 that gets dxgkrnl fatal error.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both video drivers, and I´ve even just reformatted and reinstalled windows.

I get the problem in Unity and Blender. Unity says "Busy, hold on". It stays like that forever, so I have to ctrl-alt-del to stop Unity.

Then comes the period before the BSOD. If I run Unity again, and tries to run the game in the editor, it´s really laggy, like if 1050-card isnt used. If I try another game on my pc, it´s also laggy.

Then, at any time, even if I dont ahve anything started, the BSOD with the dxgkrnl fatal error message shows.

The pc says the video card drivers works fine, but it doesnt seem like that.

I don´t know much, but could it be the switching between the integrated video card, and the nvidia 1050 -that doesnt work as it should? Is that the job of direct x?

This is all I know. Right now I can´t continue working in Unity, so I hope this will be fixed soon.

After 13 straight days with no BSODs, i just had one just by opening my laptop.

GTX1050 disabled and patiently waiting for the solution.

It's so obvious that Microsoft bricked our GTX1050 graphics card.

I don't use Lightroom or Photoshop, so that can't be a factor on my system. Like you, I've had BSOD's shortly after a cold boot - before I opened any applications. I had the same thought process: a hardware failure - then after seeing that others having the same problem all starting within a similar time frame led me to believe a Windows or driver update is the problem, not hardware.

As far as the number of people who share this problem. I think it's hard to know. My guess is that in addition to the people who have shared their problems on this forum, Dell's, NVIDIA's, or Reddit's (some of whom are the same posters), there are many more who have not shared their frustrations online.
