how in the world is "resetting my monitor" going to help me stop windows from ignoring the default audio device or re-enabling audio devices without asking that I have disabled? Please help me understand how this is helpful.

Hello,
Windows 11 keeps swapping between audio output devices at random times. Even if I "don't allow" a device in the settings or disable it through 'more sound settings'. Sometimes it happens after a reboot, sometimes it just does it for no reason. Sometimes it goes well for a day, maybe two, and then it'll swap things around again.
Is there a way for me to 'lock' the output device? My default device is set as the default. Sometimes it changes volume to maximum after a swap which you can probably understand is very inconvenient.
Did I miss a setting somewhere?
I'm using my earbuds plugged in to one of my monitors and the monitor is connected through DP, so the audio controller is my graphics card (nvidia) rather than the on-board one.
Can anyone help me out?

2023-01-20T07:33:32+00:00 Press Win + I to open the Settings app. Navigate to System > Sound and click on the sound device you want to be the default. Expand the dropdown for Set as the default sound device and select Use as default for audio.

The problem is that it will change and be reset... that's the reason for this thread. So this doesn't really help I am sorry to say.

I am beyond frustrated that my brand new Dell XPS Plus experience now feels inferior because Windows 11 (on a recent update) replaced the original speaker driver with their own, and it keeps migrating while the laptop is in use. I tried reinstalling the original recommended Realtek driver only to have it hijacked again. The only thing that consistently works is restarting my laptop which of course requires me to shut down more vulnerable apps like Outlook before doing so. A royal pain.
Is anyone at Microsoft listening?

I appreciate your time getting back to this thread have you tried to Uncheck the box to "Allow Application to take exclusive controls on this device"
-Go to Control Panel
-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.
-Select Sound.
-Select the Playback tab
-Right click the Speakers and click Enable.
-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.
-Right click Speakers and click Properties.
-Click on Advance Tab
-Uncheck the box to "Allow Application to take exclusive controls on this device"
-Click OK.
Restart your computer and check.
If issue persists, proceed with these steps.
-Go to Device Manager
-Expand the Sound and Video Game Controllers
-Look for Audio driver that was installed
-Right click and Uninstall
Once uninstalled go to this link below and download and install the driver.

Restart once done and observe the audio.

2022-12-03T09:50:34+00:00 Ridiculous. Every time I turn on the same monitors I have for years after Windows 11 boots up, they're added as new audio devices and one of them sets to default audio output. In Windows 10 I could just disable them.
