Update for Windows Security platform - KB5007651 (Version 1.0.2109.27002)

I have this same problem: Install error - 0x80070643 . My system is Win11/64 Home Build 22000.739. I have tried the following which returns no problems but does not fix the problem:

sfc /scannow 

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth 

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth 

DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

I saw the post about doing a Reset using the Windows Security app, but I don't see any Reset option anywhere in the Windows Update/Privacy & Security page. It's not clear to me what the "Windows Security" app is or where to find it. I guess I'll just wait until the next security fix comes out and hop that one will install ok.

Went through this process, it found some errors, says it fixed them, I rebooted, and ran the sfc scan again as instructed, rebooted again, and tried to download the update again, still get the same error. So I tried to manually download the update from the download center, it says it cannot find KB 5007651. This is ridiculous.

Thanks Ian. That’s narrowed it down even better than the cruder Windows Security App “Reset” that I used ! Peter

I am still waiting for an update to fix this issue that made my icons go like this and have no control panel (refer to screenshot on previous pages). With my medical conditions I don't really want to enter safe mode and start again. Because the PC is working fine apart from the icon issue + the control panel going MIA. The fact is apart from the security update not going through before, like I reported, it was working fine and getting all other updates. Even still gets other updates from outside MS (and does checks for Windows Updates atm).
