Windows 11 is keep installing the wrong AMD driver

#1. This does not work. The first opportunity Windows Update gets to install these always broken AMD drivers, it will install them. The only fix is to not allow Windows to update anything at all. Whatever these AMD drivers are that Microsoft insists that we have will result in some games telling you that you do not meet their minimum requirements to run them and AMD Adrenaline from running at all because your drivers are not compatible. If AMDs own software can't run on whatever it is that you are installing, that should tell you everything you need to know.

#2. This only works this time IF you have not already installed the broken driver. The next available version will automatically get installed.

#3. Everyone should have this without need a group policy to protect themselves from this nonsense.

Microsoft needs to worry about Windows and Microsoft's own software and let me worry about AMD and everything else on my computer.

This BS is still alive and well in 11 22h2.... Microsoft please have somebody competent have a look at this.

It is quite surprising Microsoft couldn't fix this simple problem for so many years now. My laptop keeps BSODing with "driver_power_state_failure" due to the ancient AMD driver WIN 11 insisted on installing every updates it does. And no, none of the "solutions" work.

Only way to stop the BSOD seems to be stopping windows update altogether, how is that possibly safe and secure? If this is the best Microsoft can do..... its just sad.

What helped me personally to solve this issue was actually a pretty simple solution. Open Device manager and find your device, double-click it and go to driver. Then click at something like "return changes of the driver" (I have it in Czech, so I'm not sure what it says in English). After you do that, it'll switch the driver back to the version you've installed and shouldn't update again.

I have been experiencing similar issues before, Windows re-installing an obsolete AMD driver replacing the up-to-date original, installing obsolete wireless adapter drivers among others.

1. Download the "Microsoft Show or Hide troubleshooter" tool. I downloaded it from here : https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft\_show\_or\_hide\_updates\_troubleshooter.html
2. Install the up-to-date driver you want. In this case, re-install the AMD Software Adrenaline and install all its recommended updates.
3. After all your desired and up-to-date drivers are installed and the system is restarted, run the Microsoft Show or Hide troubleshooter. By clicking "next" the tool will search for Windows updates. Once the search is completed you will be given two options : "Hide updates" and "Show hidden updates".
4. Click on "Hide Updates". After that, in your case with the obsolete AMD driver re-installing issue, you should see the driver "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Display - 30.0.13002.1001". Select the driver and click "next". The specific driver update will be excluded from future windows updates.

Should you ever need to show updates that were hidden this way, and you want Windows to re-install the whatever obsolete driver already excluded, run the tool once again, follow the same steps but this time click on "Show hidden updates". By clicking next, you should see the driver you excluded, select it, click next and voila, you have the obsolete **** for a driver back available in future Windows Updates.
