Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard stops working randomly (but not the mouse nor number pad)

I've had this problem a couple times on different Sculpt keyboards (one I use at work and one I use at home). Both times I ultimately discovered that the problem was caused by a key getting stuck (most recently it was the F8 key). Presumably when the key is pressed repeatedly and no other keys are being pressed to interrupt it, the keyboard decides to disconnect.

Both times when I fiddled with the sticking key a bit and to get it unstuck, the problem of the keyboard disconnecting (despite the number pad working) went away - no more taking the batteries out and putting them back in every time I stopped using the keyboard for a few minutes.

The design of this keyboard seems to have an issue with keys somehow getting caught in the pressed position, but fixing that when it happens generally solves the problem of disconnecting.

IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY TO UNSTICK THE KEYS!

I was having the same issue with the keyboard not responding to any keystrokes, but the separate numeric keypad worked fine.

After deleting and reinstalling the drivers, I followed the advice to 'unstick' the function keys. I went across the top line of function keys rapidly tapping each key with some sideways and up and down force, until suddenly the keyboard responded.

In support of the stuck key syndrome diagnosis, I noticed that this occurred after the previous night's visit from the office cleaning staff. I left the keyboard out overnight, and the cleaners wiped and/or vacuumed the keyboard. I believe their action caused a stuck key.

So, I happily retrieved the batteries from my trash can, since they were not the problem, set aside the clunky temporary Dell wired keyboard for future emergency, and resumed typing.

Wow - this just worked for me! I was losing my mind. Hope it lasts

I have the same issue - Windows 10 laptop. Only purchased the keyboard 2 months ago, but the issue has been happening ever since i purchased it. I can't take it back for a refund as i no longer have the original box. For the price paid i expected it to just work!

None of the previous suggestions have worked for me - only thing that seems to work is to lift the keyboard, up by 90 degrees and wiggle it until the little light comes back on, and it reconnects. (Although can hear something rattle in the keyboard). But it happens so often including while i am using it, so i know its now a power saving issue from the laptop.

Anyone have any idea how to actually contact Microsoft support for warranty - as it seems impossible to be able to directly contact support. :(

My Ergonomic Keyboard stopped working randomly too, and the only way to get it working was to pull out the battery and putting it again, making the green light lights up and it will start working again. But after a while, it stops working so I need to repeat the procedure.Tried new batteries, using another USB port, another computer, trying to update drivers, restarting computer, and so on but nothing helped. My previous ones did the same thing and this is my 3rd replacement.

I noticed that whenever I put the battery again, the Calculator app always appears on my screen. I was confused but realized that the Calculator key on the keyboard was stuck! I got the key unstuck, the keyboard is now working normally for several days now.

I think the Ergonomic Keyboard stops working after a while (after a period of not using the keyboard) if a key is stuck. Try to press every key like the functional keys and figure out which one is stuck.
