Windows 11 Cannot install update KB5016629

Have Windows 11 (upgrade from Win 10) - cannot install KB5016629 (and before it KB5015814) - tried all MS recommendations but still doesn't install. Have now hidden it using WUSHOWHIDE. My WINVER is currently showing Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.739). When the update tries to install it goes up to 100%, reboots and then it says, "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry - undoing changes. Please keep your computer on", then it takes about 10 minutes undoing all the changes and sets everything back to where it was - BUT when I re-boot again, it again tries to install the updates and does EXACTLY the same.

I have looked at MS sites and other windows-related sites (like https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-11-update-failed-to-install/…) I have followed all the instructions, even downloaded and installed the update manually (from the MS Update catalogue), it appears to install, gets to 100% and then I get EXACTLY the same error message. It's a bit concerning, as the same things happened with KB5015814 and I thought the cumulative update in KB5016629 would cover everything that I couldn't install with KG5015814, but as neither will install I am still left with an old build.

Looking at these forums and other general posts on the Internet and the MS Feedback forum, I know that I am not the only one having these problems

Please try the following methods below if it helps.

If you have Malwarebytes installed on your system, Kindly uninstall it.

Press Windows key+I to open Settings

Select Apps > Apps and features

Find Malwarebytes in the list then click Uninstsall

Turn off .NET 3.5

Open Control Panel > Programs

Click "Turn Windows feature on or off"

Untick ".NET Framework 3.5"

Click Ok

Wait for the process to complete

Restart your computer then try to install the update again.

If this fixes the issue, Kindly try to turn on .NET 3.5 again.

I had the same problem. Instead of having to uninstall Malwarebytes. all I had to do was turn off all the Real Time protection. Once it installed, I turned it all back on. Thank you for pointing me towards Malwarebytes as the problem. This was really starting to bother me spending the time uploading, installing, then having it say Something went wrong. In my case, Malwarebytes was the culprit.

Instead of uninstalling programs and such, shouldn't MS be fixing the issue? Is MS going to release cumulative updates that install and not full of bugs?

This should install all pending updates and quality fixes. Please go to this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 1. Scroll down a little and once you see Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO), please click the dropdown and choose Windows 11 and then choose your desire language and then choose 64 bit and start downloading. 2. I was able to install KB5016629 with your fix after trying for 4 days and many other fixes that didn’t work, Thank You. It got stuck on 35% and I followed your instructions on fixing that also, took 2 tries. When I went back and enabled NET 3.5, I received a message that Windows had to download files from Windows Update, seemed odd, but everything is working. Thanks.
