Icons Keep Disappearing From Taskbar - Windows 11

I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 a few months ago, and ever since I've been having a problem where the icons disappear from the taskbar. It happens while I'm using the laptop as well as when it comes out of hibernation.

I know this can be fixed temporarily by restarting Windows Explorer in the task manager, but this is happening several times a day and it's getting annoying. Is there a permenant fix yet?

I'm using Windows 11 Home version 21H2 build 22000.856 on a HP laptop with an Intel i5 1035G1 processor and 8GB of RAM. The problem didn't exist when I was running Windows 10.

Thanks.

I don't know if anyone from Microsoft is even reading this, but this is why people buy Macs.

for anyone who came to this recently like I did, I've noticed that the icons don't disappear for me if in settings under System > Multitasking I have Desktops > "On the taskbar, show all the open windows" set to "On all desktops".

If anyone else can confirm it would be nice so I know I'm not crazy.

My assumption is that when windows adds/removes the icons if you have it set to only show for your current desktop that they aren't being reinitialized correctly.

IT's no comfort, but this problem has been around for YEARS. It seems in someway to be linked to the PC emerging from "sleep" - but not in an consistent manner. People find that it comess ang goes - I had it badly about a year ago, and then it went away for a while - but then came back. I al;ways keep Windows Up to date, so it is a pretty deep-rooted problem . I cant beleive that Microsoft couldnt fix it if they wanted to, but presumably its not high priority for them..

For what it's worth, in spite of people posting "sol;utions" from time to time, the most reliable way I have found to handle it when it happens is to go to Task Mamager, Find Windows Explorer, right click iand restart it. That has always brought them back for me.

One day, it will get fixed .............

It was happening to me all the time too. Did a clean install of Windows 11 and still the icons disappeared. Did another fresh install of Windows 11 a few months ago because I was still having seperate computer issues and it hasnt happened for 2 months... the only thing I can think of thats different this time is I didnt link my microsoft account to the computer to sign in.
